Dell is on a SOAP Box

Thread Starter
There are news articles some of them on GamSpot that are spouting DELL XPS systems as the pioneers of mobile gaming to notebooks.

I thought that Other notebooks such as Sagers have been the industry lead for implementing new gaming notebooks.

Heres one article

Is Dell really the leader for moble notebook gaming?

Dell is the mainstream leader, HUGE name, big spotlight and most people dont know about Sager, Hypersonic, Clevo, Voodoo. Alienware is getting pretty big though (probably why their customer service sucks now).

Dell & Sager

Well the yearly advertising budget of Dell probably exceeds the yearly sales of Sagers. Sager advertises in Laptop magazine where Dell advertises during Super Bowls, All Star games and even episodes of Desperate Housewives along with every PC magazine out there. Dell tells you they are the best everywhere and lots of people believe if they say it so much it must be true.

And.... Dell offers you "deep" discount prices. However, these "discounted prices" are often higher than those on their own web site(s) - depending on how you enter the sites.

Dell has got my respect in the area that the XPS 2 will be able to use the newer 7800 cards without any mobo, powerbricks ect changes.

The Sagers seem to be suffering from this and most need a new mobo ect to be installed before allowing for a new 7800 to run.

The XPS Gen 1 and i9100 were also impressive due to the fact that you also only needed the 9800 card to update.
This indicates good foresight by Dell's Development department when designing the XPS2/Inspirion ranges.

I'm not sure that you can change the video card on the XPS2 ... It's the M170 which can use a 7800 no ?

Well we will hear all about as soon as the Dell fanboys get wind of this and start posting this is why Dell is better than the rest.

The M170 and XPS2 are the exact same laptop, just with different names. However, I'd trade my XPS2 for an NP 5720 any day of the week. The modular bay and Azalia 7.1 audio are killer apps IMHO. I also like that it has a 4-in-1 card reader instead of just an SD reader, and it has a webcam, and a WSXGA+ screen is available, and you can get it with a TV tuner. Plus I bet the Audio DJ controls can be used without booting up all the way to Windows. I would prefer that it have more than four USB ports, though -- I thought I wouldn't use six on my XPS2, but I use four nonstop, and five regularly.

the only usb port i use on my desktop is for my mouse(and i just added a printer recently so i guess that makes two )

As for audioDJ, i dont think there is any software involved at all. you just use it like a regular mp3cd player. you dont even open up the lcd. you just use the buttons and the display on the front of the notebook. i wish they would work with nvidia though to use the video card mpeg2 decoder to play dvd's without powering up the harddrive, memory and cpu(or at least use them in a low power state so they dont suck up so much battery).
