I run Yoper right now. I have used Suse 8.1(with great success), Slackware(with decent success), as well.
Yoper uses two XF86Config files, XF86Config and XF86Config-4. I have no clue how they interact with one another. I had to edit the files to switch the default display to 24 bit colors, and I set that color to only support one resolution, 1600x1200.
I have post previously on some subjects concerning XF86Config.

Thanks. I haven't yet attempted to use the ati driver, but I did get it to work finally with the vesa driver. i do have a question for you though. I see you hae more than one input device setup, one for the touchpad and one for the usb mouse. Are you also running gpm (general purpose mouse)? I am having all kinds of trouble using the two together.

Yes, thanks for the file.. it was certainly helpful. I've now got Gentoo Linux up with the vesa driver.I couldn't get the ati driver to work, however. It complained that there was no device found. Is anyone else getting this, and does anyone know of a way to get the ATI driver working?

Yo everyone... I got some sort of generic radeon drivers to work just fine under gentoo running an experimental version of x server. If you know how to let emerge use experimental packagesm then get the newest one for X. Otherwise, I'll post instructions later today. (The only thing that did not work were the ATI configuration program.) Oh, and if you give yourself the ablility to emerge, make SURE you don't "emerge -u --world" HAHAHAHAHAHA!
