Just ordered EX7!

I can't wait! I've been wanting to get my new laptop for just about a year. I was planning on going with the Dual-core, which are supposed to come out around November, but I decided against it. My main concern was that since it was a new board, new chip, etc, it might have problems. I'm sure they'll get worked out, its just that I don't have the time to wait anymore. Usually hardware gets very solid after the first iteration or so. Oh well, I'll just save the dual-core for my next upgrade

Specs I got:

Aviator EX7
3.80GHz Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 670 (with EM64T)
Intel® 915P+ICH6 LGA-775 Mobile Motherboard (EX7)
1024MB Mushkin PC4200 DDR2-533 SODIMM (Low Latency 4-4-4-12)
1024MB Mushkin PC4200 DDR2-533 SODIMM (Low Latency 4-4-4-12)
100GB 7200rpm Serial-ATA Hard Drive with NCQ
8X DVD ± R/W Drive Dual Layer w/ DVD Recording Software & LightScribe Technology
Nvidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX PCI-Express 256MB
Internal 802.11-Super A/G 108Mbps Wireless Network Adapter
17" WUXGA 1920x1200 VividView™ Display w/ Super Clear Glossy Surface

Can't wait!

Why Mushkin?

Both Mushkin and Crucial are great memory makers. No reason for choosing one over the other...that I could tell.

Nice system and you got the 7800 as well - very nice. Looking forward to seeing your review when it comes in. Without the paint job, should not be a long wait....

Thanks drohm.

I noticed that Hypersonic only recently added the Mushkin as an option and I had not heard of them (but that doesn't mean anything). I was curious because I am about to pull the plug and order this unit also. I can't wait another month only to see the D900K dual core delayed another 30 days.

I have a lot of 3D rendering stacking up and I have to get on with it. The dual core would have been nice. I think you are correct in your assessment that this may not be the unit you want to order first out of the shoot. It seems that Clevo is well off their target date they published not too long ago. To me, and perhaps I am wrong, this would indicate serious issues and I don't know that I caould justify $7000 for something experimental.

I just called Hypersonic and ordered the Titanium Pearl. I was thinking about it all night and decided to go for the custom paint job. I just looks SO nice. Yea, it delays the order, but after reading the forums and seeing how happy everyone is with their paint jobs, I decided to go for it. I'll definately post pics and a review when I finally get this thing.

There is no doubt - the paint jobs rock. I love my paint jobs and have been thinking about changing the color scheme on the next model. I am not sure which style I would go with - but got to come up with a unique look. Problem is - I still have my custom painted mouse/keyboard. Don't want to have to pay for another set.

I think you will be happy with the Titanium Pearl. Too light for me though.

Looking forward to the pics!

ratmyr,
I'm curious, from the time you submitted your order to the time you recieved the laptop, how long did it take? Just wondering if yours took the full 4 weeks or if it came sooner.

I am not a good measurement of time. I believe it took about five weeks from the point I ordered until it shipped. However, it took longer to get to me because of APO shipping (shipping to military bases outside the US). This is the slow snail-mail system and definitely sucks waiting on.

As for the length of time, there was an issue on my system with the paint that required a touch up to be done on it. This required it to do another coast-to-coast trip prior to coming to me. But I believe, all in all, it was five weeks.

IF you get a custom paint job it will take the full 4 weeks...but remember you can't rush perfection.
