I'm still wondering why I never hear any of you having an in home warranty. Alienware offers it. And since you are spending so many thousands of dollars on the laptops, why not spring for an at home warranty?

I sent mine on sept 22, it is now oct 7th and being told "waiting on parts". Need a motherboard replacement of a notebook 6 months old, go figure. Think the heat issue is bigger then what they think it is. Hopefully have mine back before christmas :/

Sent mine in on 29th is when they got it... I have the 766 and the screen went poofy so i sent it in... They are telling me I may see it in November :-(

The standard depot policy is to return any serviced PC to you by 2 day...at least, that's what they told me. They may be jerking your leg making you think they're trying to make things better. I would try to call them out on it.

BTW, mine crapped out on me twice in less than 3 months, so I got rid of it. First time, both--not one--BOTH of the hard drives went out. Second time, half of the screen just burnt out. So, albeit much sadness, I got rid of it. A $3600 machine, IMO, should work flawlessly for a little longer than 3 months before beginning to have issues.

Jericho,

Would you really want a Baytown or Pasadena jackleg to show up at the door? You'd have to feed and water him...

Seriously though you have a good question. Maybe more valid for Desktops than Mobiles...but still a good question. I Guess I Just Don't Know, but I would feel 'icky' with some so called PCTech coming into my home and working on my system. It's just 'icky' and don't seem right...

I Didnt know that is was standard policy, but your reasoning makes sense. I told them i have been without it for a month, and i really needed a laptop, and they said what they could do is instead of shipping ground, they would offer to fly it instead.

And Jericho, when i was first doing the troubleshooting with the phone tech, he told me after we pretty much did everything we could think of, that it was something that had to be sent in, nothing that a at home tech could deal with. For the first two weeks i was waiting for a mb replacement. It finally came in, & it went to the integration phase. I guess they were running there tests, and it kept on shutting off, so they ruled the NEW mb defective, dropped it back down to diagnostic phase, and now i have to wait for another one. I heard so many other people on here whining and complaining, and i never honestly thought i would be one of them. Sorry for venting, but im so sick of this sh..

Good news, I received my notebook back today Oct. 13th from the depot with a new motherboard, and it is the lastest motherboard which is even better. There is one problem I HAVE NO POWER ADAPTER. The sad part about this is that I called that morning before it was shipped to ensure the power adapter was in the box, go figure. Oddly this seems to be an issue with the depot not returning the power adapters. Oh well I really can not complain since they did give me a better motherboard then what I had ) Overall AW received my notebook on Sept. 22nd and shipped it back on Oct. 11th to give you an idea of how long it took mine for repair. Have a great day everyone.

ok i got my laptop today, but something doesnt seem correct. Everything is updated but it seems to be performing poorly when playing games. When i got the laptop i checked the file that has all the tests and it says that doom ran with 25 fps, that seems to be lacking quite a bit. Can anyone tell me if thats below par?

What are your laptop specs again pain1701?

My year old AW Desktop w/Abit AA8XE-570J-1GB-6800U scores about 90 fps Doom 3. A terrible comparison probably...

Damn that was a long time for repair??? It had already been in for a couple of weeks when you started this thread.

Hope every things cool!

well there is something wrong with the laptop thats for sure. its a 3.4ghz 2gig ram nvidia 6800 go m7700. I checked with a person and they kept the burn in test file and they got 80 fps on doom and they have 3.0ghz 1gig same graphics card, so im guessing they did the tests real fast and the person who did them didnt even stop to think if the scores were on par. i really dont want to have to send in the laptop again, but now i start the phone calling game again
*edit*
damn i feeled like i got the shaft on this. My speakers are now having this crackling noise in the background. I dont know what to do, it took them 6 weeks for repairs and they sent me a computer that is way below alienware standards
oh ya this is what came with the computer- its the burn in tests

III. Burn-In/Benchmarks

GT2 - Firefly Forest: 2.86 FPS

dang it sorry about that, im a little jumpy and i apologize. I was told that my warrenty would not be extended so im having to make more calls to make sure it happens, anyways do you think that thermal paste will bring the fps from 23.0 to 80.0 ? i dunno what to think, maybe the video card is shot but my laptop is just not the same
*edit*
sorry to sound like a complainer but man my lappy is going downhill, besides the crackling speakers and crappy graphics ive now got a dead pixel lol

ok theres something i think you people need to understand about a hurricane especially in florida. when it comes pretty much everyone in the predicted path and miles away from it leave until well after. when they get back they have to get to the systems that were in the shop before the hurricane struck its a first come first serve basis. not to mention UPS and fedex get shut down in that area. and not to mention new orleans alot of shipping traffic travels through there. they had to get all of there planes out of the pathway so there was no way of getting most shipments to the florida area. i have a question for everyone. do you elevate your laptop to allow proper airflow and cooling to the system? im going onto a year with my laptop with no problems what so ever except for microsoft crapping on me i even got my floppy drive no problem

proper airflow yes, my computer came back to me worse than when i sent it... that is the issue. its been about 2 months without a laptop that works properly, it seems to be going downhill. They knew something was wrong at the depot yet they still sent it to me . Take into consideration some people just get lemons, like cars huh, not everything is made equally. dont see any correliation with the hurricane flatulatta... only added a week to my system
