5670 and Knoppix-STD Boot Problems

I'm running a Sager 5670

2.4Ghz P4
512MB Ram
60GB
DVD/CDRW
UXGA
Orinoco Wireless

When I boot Knoppix-STD .1b (latest) it blacks out almost immediately - I've read quite a bit about problems with this distro - the best fix appears to be turning on HT but of course I don't have HT with this CPU so - what can I do to get this working. I've tried all the cheats - failsafe, expert, noprobe, noddc, nofb, xmodule=radeon, noagp and a variety of others. I did catch a thread where one person had it working but they did not say what they had to do - any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

JROE
