what causes dead/lit pixels?

Hey all!

Just tonight i was greeted with two cyan colored pixels. I noticed it over the new "white" (pale blue) color i have on sagerforums. Now i can't understand why they just appeared over night. I have an idea though. Extensive gaming. It has to be the reason, because my screen has been absolutely perfect over the life of it so far, and just this weekend, i finally was able to do some online COD gaming. Then these pixels show up. Seriously though, they are not bad at all. I can definately live with them.

Here are my observations, based on different background colors on my desktop.
Magenta: dark blue pixels
White: cyan pixels
Black: no visible dead pixels
Yellow: cyan color
red: black pixels

so i guess they kind of depend on the color of the background, but i almost have to conclude that is because i am trying to adjust my eyes to a more vibrant color than the actual lit pixel. I am only interested in knowing why
1) they appear as black on a dark backgrounds
2) they appear as cyan on light backgrounds.

also, i would like to know if anyone thinks it is because of hardcore gaming for many hours, whether it would cause them to stay a color.

Any debate would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Lit cyan pixels are the same as stuck red ones, since blue and green makes cyan.

A defective pixel can be caused by a bad power connection in a row/column of pixels, or a failure of the crystal which prevents light from passing through the red filter. Since TFT screens are white (pixels passing light through) when on, the red pixel would be stuck in an off (not passing light through) state, thus not noticeable with a dark background.

hey, thanks! I have been lead to believe that lit and stuck pixels are the same thing, stuck on a single color. And dead pixels are just black and not really noticeable. Well, these two pixels are really unnoticeable . I can barely notice them unless i am looking pretty close to the screen on a white screen. Obviously with a red background, i can vividly see the two black pixels.

A bad power connection is what you think it could be, huh? That must have been caused by the heat that was produced while gaming this weekend. Then the transistors for those individual pixels got fried or something. oh well, it sucks, and now i can no longer say my screen is absolutely perfect, but i can rest assured no one will ever see them.
<---- guess i shoulda done that a long time ago!

I always told myself that if i got a stuck pixel that was really noticeable i would simply take as fine a point marker i could find and gently put a small black dot over the stuck pixel. That way i wouldn't have to stare at it. In my case, a black mark would be more noticeable than the cyan, but in your case, it may make the problem seem less as big a deal as it is. Im curious as to why they freeze like they do. i mean, sure, everyday wear and tear will do that, but could it be because of extensive heat in the screen during intense gaming. btw does the screen get hot while gaming. Guess i shoulda checkd that out too. Take it easy!

Really? I have never heard of that happening before.

yea he's in the top lefts, noticable in almost every color but white since it washes it out. It's really bad on a black background. Thankfully it's out of the way so i don't see it that much.

i was able to rub out a blue pixel that appeared two weeks after reciveing my laptop. I was thinking about returning it at the time, becuase of the pixel and other things, now i am glad i didn't. The two pixels i just got on my screen are not able to be rubbed out, unfortunately! but i can't see them on either a white screen or a black screen, so i am ok with it. Only time i can see them blatently is on a red screen and they appear as black. strange!

is there any special method to do it? or is it just small circles?

the shfting magnetic poles of Vega combined with the balkanization of solar flares reflecting off of dark side of Europa are a strong source of dead pixel amalgam.

well, the first time i got the lit pixel i simply pushed in on the screen. You know how it makes all those swirly colors right? well 2 minutes later the pixel was gone. There must be some reason it went away that would be defined as a different problem from the current pixels i have now. They are different. If i had an annoying green pixel or red pixel i would simply put a small black dot over it to hide it, (and in a way simulate a dead pixel). cheers!
