Your laptop is now an XPS with a 100MB ethernet card and a 6800 go. You can use any XPS bios once you make the machine think it's an XPS.
That's not what they asked...

They wanted to know if you do this mod if you can use a random BIOS (like say a Pheonix, etc).

I'm sure you COULD flash it with one from the company that made the BIOS in these, but you have a very good chance of damaging it. If you damage it, you won't be able to boot the computer AND not be able to flash it back, which will require the chip to be physically programmed. Pretty much you'd need a new motherboard since I doubt the CMOS is removable.

You are, of course, completely correct. I apologise for the misunderstanding and assumption in my post. Fussing about people not reading posts while I'm not reading theirs, sickening irony. Once again, sorry; thanks for the courteous correction.

Well everything worked great with the Bios flash and I was able to flash back to the 9300 bios without any major problems. One problem I did have was the XPS bios, (including the newest A04) would not allow me to boot from a USB HD or Keydrive so I had physically put another Hardrive in the laptop to flash it back, but if you can get a bootable CD that work you shoudl have no problems.

I just checked on dells website for a 130 power adapter and when I looked at the pic it had a square connector not a round one. Could someone point me in the direction of the right one or tell me the part number of what I should be looking for. I am gonna order it off ebay just need to make sure I get the right thing. Also IRobertus where did you purchase the 6800 Ultra card from?

The picture on Dell's web site is wrong, so don't let that worry you, and I orderd the Video card straight from Dell.

-So this should work in my 9200 too, right?

(Joking!)

So what will everybody call there modded 9300, I can't say it's a 9300 anymore cause the BIOS is going to report it as an XPS2, and I cant say it's and XPS2 cause it doesnt have the fancy case or glowing led's.

Is it a XPS 9300, or a 9300-2, or a X9300, 9300X, or maybe a XPS-9?

Someone should make a poll and see what user's will dub there new frankenstien laptop.

It really sucks that there is no place on Dell's website to buy the actual components. Anyone know the part number for the the 6800 Ultra and if there are any coupons on it?
Just do a search on the part number.

On Dell's site, nothing shows up. Does anybody have the 6800 ultra part number?

at least someone tried it out without the ultra, so they know the bios runs fine.

I'm a social whore, I don't mind popularity contests. I am well aware of what they are, anyway. :P

you void your warranty doing a lot of stuff. this is one of those things that is "easily reversible" as in non-permanent.

course, actually upgrading to the 6800 Ultra is a little more permanent.
