Ordering the 2.1GHZ 700M

Thread Starter
I just submitted an order for the 1.8GHZ 700M after the 2.0GHZ wasn't available anymore.

Then this morning I went to the Dell Small Business portion and they are offering the 2.1GHZ. I really don't understand why they don't offer it in the Home section. I am about to cancel my order and re-order this 2.1GHZ.

Any explanation as to why Dell is doing this?

Also another question... If I wanted to upgrade to 2GIGs of RAM should I get the 512 MB with 2DIMMS or 1 DIMM?

Is the relatively small additional processor speed really worth the premium of buying from Small Business?

Yeah, I have to ask, why do you need the 2.1? I mean, the 1.6 in my 700m is easily comparable to the 2.8ghz P4 in my i9100.

IMO, it might not be worth the extra cash.

As far as upgrading the RAM, there are only two DIMMS. If you want to upgrade to two gigs, then you're wasting your cash on getting a 1DIMM 512MB stick. I would either get 1 DIMM of 256 and just buy two 1GB sticks from newegg or order the laptop with 1DIMM of 1GB ram and buy a second one from newegg.

If its the same price get the single 512.
Easier to sell.

Yeah, I suggest getting the 1x512MB, that is, if you plan to sell the RAM you will take out. If you're just going to throw it away, just take the 2 DIMMs.

Anyway, without coupons, the Home and Small Business prices are no different, so you have to decide if the .3GHz increase is worth the money. I priced out 2 systems, one in Home, and one in Small Business, and there was a $300 difference. $200 of that came from the processor, and the other $100 came from the support. $200 is actually not that bad, considering the difference between 2.0GHz and 2.1GHz used to be around $200, but I don't know if I would take it. I probably would just get the 1.8.

I got my 2.0 with a 750 coupon, I wouldn't have done it without one. Three's not enough difference between my 2.0 and 1.6 to justify it. Lot's of ram and a fast drive mean as much for most things.

Yeah, I have a 1.8ghz and it is pretty fast. I would get the 2.1 if I could afford it, so if you got cash lying around, just do it (it sems like you do because you're gonna get 2GB RAM and thinking about getting a 2.1GHZ processor). After you're done with that get the 7k60 =]
