For the people still hesitating to mod their 9800s - Page 3

Hello all,
I'm interested in modding my MR9800 because new games (like FEAR) are a bit slow now.

I've bought my i9100 in september 27th 2004 (would be 39th week of 2004). Is the GPU too recent to mod it?
The computer is still under warranty until september 2008.
Is it dangerous to make the mod?

the date you bought it does not exactly correspond to when the part was manufactured. your computer may have been sitting on a shelf for weeks.

the mod seems to be pretty safe based on everyones results.

Would love to give it a go, i prolly have a nice 12 (maybe 16!) pipe sittin under the hood.. but till i get enough cash to replace the thing if it goes bang, its not worth the extra fps... Cant complain at the score i get, for now

Your's is older than mine so you should have success. I haven't heard of anyone blowing up their cards by attempting the mod, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. I think it either works and unlocks the pipes or doesn't work and you have what you originally started with.

Wrong. I did. There was one more guy that had exactly the same symptoms as mine. Would wrok for a while and then wouldn't start. Needed to be left to cool for hours before it worked. But both of us had the newer cards that were newer than 40th week. I had to get a new one (and never regreted it!).

And how old is the new one?

Do you mean the old new one, or the new old one? Haha
The one that got destroyed was 44th week. The 16 pipe one was 29th week.

IF only there was a tool to tell me the date of the gpu, i`d do it.

unlocked my friend's to 12 pipes. believe it was a 27th week.

Just take it apart and look on the GPU duffy. You can't hurt anything by doing that. (Unless you don't know how to handle a screwdriver!) =)

Considering your signature, you are not happy with 8 pipes anyway.
