asus z70v is this a misprint????

Thread Starter
look here:

http://www.thenerds.net/index.php?pa...35b1cdca462f7f

it says it the z70v:

ASUS
Z70V Barebone Notebook - NO CPU - 2 GB RAM - DDR2 SDRAM - Ethernet; IEEE 802.11b

the way they describe it...looks like its supposed to come with 2 gigs of ddr2 ram.

if it did come with the ram included wouldn't that be a super low price?

Yes that would be an awsome deal , if the memory is included ... but by the way dont get confused , this is not "A-Z70Va"

The Asus "Z70V" comes with "ATI Mobility Radeon X600 64MB VRAM PCI Express Video"

No it's not a misprint, it means it has a total capacity of 2 GB ram. 2 sodimm slots.

Barebones, means that you will have to add the cpu, ram, hard drive, ect.

If you don't have any experience installing parts, in this case you have to get the cpu separately, then I would suggest you rather buy a barebones model with the cpu pre-installed by professionals. Also, you should maybe look into the "refresh" version if you're looking into the z7000 series. The z70va is only a couple of dollars more and has better graphics. Goodluck in your notebook searching.

I dont entirely agree. If you have 1/2 a brain and built an erector set as a kid, you can install the components into a z70v - the install is very easy and straight forward. The 'hardest' part is installing the wireless card which is inside under the keyboard, it requires that you remove like 4 screws or so.

Also, if you dont game, there is no reason to spend the couple extra Hundred dollars they charge for the x700 and bluetooth. The x600 is still good enough to play pretty much most games and middle setting or so...battlefield 2 will play on mine.

good luck though

baileymoto whats your score on 3dmark '05? I'm looking at the refresh and the non-refresh. I use photoshop alot and play some games like counter-strike. Will the 64mb x600 work fine for all this?

If the reseller is selling you a separate warranty on all hardware and labour , then you will void that warranty by installing the hardware yourself , you will still have the warranty from manufacturers tho ..

just thought it was important to add that

The z70va is great, but I've heard that it's got loud fan noise problems and overheats much easier than the z70v.

Check out the asus board for the decible reading...

I agree that certain parts like the HD and RAM are real easy to install, but in this case.. davioh would have to install the cpu as well, and that would mean opening up the whole system to get into the mobo space. I was just suggesting that davioh find a system with the cpu installed already by the reseller, as it doesn't cost that much more, plus davioh wouldn't have to worry about voiding any warranty like Tsukihime said above, if you choose to install it yourself. Also, the z70va is only $100 more than the z70v, and that's with internal bluetooth. Having a better graphics card like the x700 wouldn't hurt either as davioh wouldn't have to worry about upgrading sooner.

The CPU in installed via a door on the bottom of the laptop, similar to RAM.

For what its worth, I paid less than $1300 (shipped) for a z70v with 1.73ghz, 512mb ram, wifi card. and an 80gb Fujitsu HD

I got around 1200 with 05 if I remember correctly. I am not a gamer what so ever when it comes to computer games, but I was curious and did test the following games: GTA3 San Andreas, Battlefield 2, Need for Speed Underground 2, and a couple others that slip my mind at the moment. The newer first person shooters required me to keep it at medium settings. If you plan on playing 2005+ first person shooters, I'd say spend the extra and get the x700. If you have a desktop, or arent a big gamer, the x600 should be more than enough...nto to mention quieter and better battery life.

Also, if you can get the z70va refresh for $1400 shipped, id say go for it.

Now that I look at the uprices again, the z70vz is only $100 more...it may be worth it to you to hop to it. For me its not, but for most it may be. If it were my decision, I think id apply the $100 to more RAM or a 7200RPM HD.
