Toshiba M70-SR3. - Page 2

I have heard that Future is getting the SR6 with Centrino 740 1.73GHz, 512 MB DDR2, 256 MB ATI(X700!?!?), 100GB HDD... and I heard this was going to be at $1799. I am not sure how reliable that information is but it seems to jive with what YP5 said earlier in this thread.

How do you think this compares to the the SF3?
The ATI card would be disappointing. They should stick a nVidia in it, as they did with the M60.

Disappointing even given 256 mb vs. 128 mb? It looks like I will be returning my SF3 and getting the SR6 when it comes in due to some hardware issues. From what i have read so far the nvidia outperforms the ATI by a bit when comparing the 128 MB versions of each. Would the extra memory not put the X700 atleast even with the 6600?

i would say that the 256mb can help it and likely you would notice it a bit faster with the 256mb. but in real life actual computing i doubt you would be able to tell that much because one or two more frames wont be noticeable...

in the notebook world.... 256 over 128 isnt that much of a difference

the specs mentioned above regarding the $1799 sku is bang on.
1799? Thats pretty expensive. A similarly equipped M40 costs about 100 dollars less I think. Could be wrong though

So will I notice a difference going from the SF3 to an SR6?

yes indeed.

The X700 is actually faster than many of the Go 6600s around. The Go 6600s mostly used are 300/600 which nets you around 2K in 3DMark05. The X700s are typically hitting 2300-2400. Well, then again the ATi cards do slightly better in 3DMark than the do in games (relatively).

the SR3 and SR6 are IDENTICAL except for the ATI X700 256MB card...the SR3 will use the great Intel GMA 900 w/ 128mb Shared video system.

The SR6 will be a future shop exclusive...I think they spec'd that one out themselves.

Guys...you are missing the big picture.... DDR2 + SATA 5400rpm.

I got 2300 (well, just a bit above) in 3DMark 05 on my 6600Go.

Hi, I'm also looking to purchase an M70 (after returning my M60 earlier due to a dead pixel).

I like the M70 more than the M60 because of the larger LEDs and the removal of that weird knob/button that turns off the screen located above the keypad. Why do they have to include that anyways? Don't they have to technology to add sensors to detect when the lid is closed?

On another note, how future-proof is the X700? I don't really care about 1 or 2 frames difference in gameplay, but is the Shader Model 3 technology you guys are mentioning a "must-have" for the future?

I actually prefer to puchase an ATI chip, mainly because my parents own stocks of ATI. They'll be happy to know this purchase is somewhat beneficial to them.

I thought that was a good feature--you have dust on your screen, you just press that and wipe the dust off easy, no frets--you see where it all is.

I'd rather have Shader Model 3 and the little button thing than neither.

YP5 - when you say the Intel GMA 900 is great are you being sarcastic, or is it really pretty good for a shared system?
Thanks for the early predictions, the Toshiba site now has a bunch of new models for both the M60 and M70. They don't seem to have a mid-price ($1700-$1800) option with dedicated graphics though. Perhaps the Future Shop model might be the answer to that.

yes...the $1799 model will most likely not be seen on Toshiba's website.

the intel GMA 900 isnt that hot...

i know the $1799 futureshop model will be an amazing seller with those specs.

Imagine if the button breaks though...you'll never be able to close the lid without draining the battery.

I'm looking forward to the $1799 model for futureshop. Any ideas if the $1799 model can also be found in Best Buy stores?

Why and how on earth would it break? What do you do with your laptops people? Heh, I guess I'm much more careful with those things than other people. I don't shake and throw my computer around like the Panasonic Toughbook test lab people. :P
