NOTICE: For ATI X8xx Owners

I'm sitting here at work today surfing the web and I come across this:

ATI's Radeon X800 Series Can Do Transparency AA Too

Apparently there is a way to unlock this feature using the 5.9 catalyst driver. I saw some screen shots of HL2 and the difference is fantastic. I didn't read through to see about mobile drivers but when I get home I'm firing up my desktop X850 to give it a try.

Here is a link to the original article I found it, and here is the link for the instructions.

ATi's adaptive AA is really meant to be used by the R5xx series coming out in 3 days, as they do not take the ~30% performance hit that the R4xx does.

Some people are not taking that large of a performance hit.

If the performance is not playable, what's the point? Have some people gotten their registry to work yet?

On my AIW X800 XT, the performance hit is barely noticable. I get 70 FPS in games instead of 80 FPS.. OH NO! And if someone has screwed up their registery enabling this, they seriously need a console and not a PC.

No I didn't screw up the registry. I had the whole thing working but I was noticing that a few of the fence panels in the very beginning of the game were missing it's links. I rolled back the driver to do a comparison and I didn't uninstall 5.9 properly and the driver is now caught in an infinite loop. I don't need to be told I need a console Sharakkhal. Kapiesh? And you're welcome for hte link.

I was actually replying to Karma's comment about the registry, as you hadn't mentioned registry at all:
"Have some people gotten their registry to work yet?"

Indeed the information is useful, but I saw it first on the [H]ardForums on 9-29, or three days before you posted it here.
