Missing icons in system tray...

Thread Starter
I've had my IBM X40 for over a year now and I still think it's the greatest laptop I've had for packing on trips, especially when doing a long trek from one airport gate to another. Recently I notice a change in my system tray icons. I seem to have lost my battery gas guage that shows the percentage of remaining battery charge . Also, my "network " connection (shaped like a T) has also disappeared. Before, the battery icon was on the far left and the network icon was on the far right. While the computer works fine without these two missing icons, I would like to get them back if possible. I suppose I could get them back by doing a "restore" to an earlier day, but I prefer not to go the route. Anyone know how to turn these 2 icons back on?]

that's the "notification area". right-click anywhere in your toolbar (the blue bar along the bottom) and go to "properties". On the bottom, where it says "hide inactive items", click on the "customize" button. Find the icons from the list that you want to restore and change them to "always show". If this doesn't work: find "SSDP Discovery Service" in Control Panel> Administrative Tools > Services...and disable it.
