HP vs Toshiba

I got a call today from the geek squad letting me know their scrapping my zd 7010us and that I can come in for a replacement. I want to stay with a 17" notebook so I got to choose between a Toshiba M65-S9092 or a HP zd8215us as these are what Best Buy carries for a comparable price. Can someone help me decide as I will need to decide asap, thanks.

Hi guys,

Well, I ended up buying locally to get that warranty. I was having a hard time knowing that I would be on my own if I purchased in the US.

However, I did not buy the ZD8000. They were too expensive if purchased locally, so I went with the manufacturer that was hidden in the back of my head all this time.

It's remarkable that krom mentioned that he's considering a M65 because that's what I got. Actually, these words are being typed on the M65's beautiful ful sized keyboard. The actual model is M65-SP811. Specs here: http://www.toshibalatino.com/documen.../M65-SP811.pdf
They're in spanish, but you'll get the important parts. The only thing I'm changing is that I'm going to add 2GB RAM and trade in my 512 RAM. Other than that, it's gonna run like it comes from the factory. What do you think?

Anyway, considering that I am now a proud, happy owner of a Toshiba laptop I guess I should switch to that sub-forum.

This machine is amazing and probably a better option than the ZD8000 I was looking into.

I didn't get a chance to do a review straight from the box as I had promised because I had to take the computer out of the box on the spot and try it for dead pixels, etc. in front of the man go gave it to me in the distributor.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I know you went with the Toshiba, but just for future reference, no you can't change the video card in a notebook (in general, all brands) unless an uprade is made specifically for it.....and that's pretty rare. Vid cards are made to fit specific machines in notebooks, so for instance a Nvidia 6800 for a Dell won't fit AW and vice-versa.

Yeah, I was just saying that you can't upgrade unless an uprage is made specifically for your laptop.

I still have this thread bookmarked for some reason. Thanks for the additional help.

So far, I've had no problems with my Toshiba notebook. I'm so happy.
