First post, new user same ol' blah blah.

Either way i'm a college student at the moment, attending grad school this next year. In the market for a laptop and i've already done some searching but, with every search, comes with new brands. for instance, i've never heard of sager until today when i visited this web site. Looking for a good "quiet" labtop with a big hdd, good quality video card and other neccesities for an entertainment media center, running programs such as adobe photoshop cs and other graphic altering programs with musical programs such as sonar 3, fruity loops and others.

My needs:
Preferably a 17"
~100gb hdd (5400+)
256mb video card
internal wireless card
looking for a pentium M processor, prefer a 770 (2.13ghz) but will go with the 760.

I had already customized alienwares *before they got rid of their 7500 model which was perfect for my needs, go figure* dell inspiron 9300 *terrible reviews especially with the monitor* and now an hp zd8000 *decent reviews but the size, loudness of the labtop and the heat are starting to make me linger*

a good warranty is a good idea but a company with tech. support here in the states would be great for hardware probs *i can do a few things but no need in it if it comes with the warranty...why waste the money?*

i'm looking at the asus w2v right now, good reviews good computer, 128mb ati radeon video card only dislike *looking for a 256, even if it's nVidia* but i don't know much about their tech support or warranties? good computers? receive them good shape and don't break down afte 2 months? any comments, suggestions, or posts for that matter would be extremely helpful, thanks in advance.

Well , first of all , in my opinion , i would avoid , Alienware , Xvx , VooDoo , youre mostly paying for the little alien head , or whatever the logo is , their computers are way overpriced ..

The second thing , again thats my opinion , but i consider Asus , one of the best manufaturer , after Apple and IBM , but these 2 dont fits your need , Asus on the other hand would be good for you.

With that said , if you could give us your budget that would help , so we can find something in your price range !

budge

well, i'm not looking to spend an "exotic" amount of money *like the dell xps models $4000 and up* 2500+ np but umm...price ceiling of about $3200 i'd have to say *have to leave a little room for cases and the such in the price*
i've been looking at the asus website since my first post and i see they have another model up right now the z83v i think? this particular model seems to be even better equipped then the w2v *still keeping the 17" which is good* but to answer your question my budget for a laptop would and will be within the $2500-$3200 range, ty for searching

thread

ty djembe for that thread posting, i think that magnet feature is a nice touch, also a little taboo at the sametime *who would think you would use a magnet feature so clost to your computer??* it seems most of the "concerns" deals with the Media Center Edition of Xp and the remote control and tuner, which i still do not really understand after looking over PROPortable's posts in that thread, is he saying that with the media center, your remote control WILL NOT work with? the way the posts were worded are a tad bit misleading and un-specified but if the w2v is as good as these reviews sound then the z83v must be quite a machine, any posts to any z83v threads? thanks agains guys.

Well for your information if you like the Dell Xps Gen 2 , you might want to check their outlet store... www.dell.com/outlet , they sell refurbished units for a lower price , the only annoying thing is that you dont have any option , you take the system as is , but you can always upgrade it on your own if you like , by buying a new HD , or additional memory ... or you could always check on Ebay , Ebay prices are just impossible to beat , you could easily get a 2.13 Xps 2 , with 6800 Ultra , 2 Gb of memory , 17"WUXGA , 60Gb 7200 rpm or 100GB 5400 Rpm , for 2300-2400 , and from there you can upgrade your warranty and put a nice Accidential Protection , which only few reseller have ..

Still getting an Asus is a great thing , they are really well built , awsome quality , really nice looking notebooks .

dell xps ^^^

actually, i had a customized xps gen 2 all set and rdy to go at around $3200 i believe, but after doing some comparison between the xps gen 2 and the inspiron 9300..i was kind of dissapointed that with the exact same specifications and configurations, the dell xps gen 2 was still about $500 more expensive then the 9300 *guess those light changing logos on the front cover are pretty expensive* after reading many*and i mean many* reviews about the 9300 and the xps gen 2 i found that about 7 out of 10 owners were dissatisfied *lightly to irrate* and about 4 out of 10 returned the 2 models happily paying the 15% cancellation/returning charge to get rid of these units, so for these reasons, i'm trying to stay away from dell as much as possible *don't believe everything you hear i know* but the masses and majority of those that OWN the computers would know the best i feel. but ty for your posting.

The reason the XPS Gen 2 is so much more expensive is because of the better video card. The XPS Gen 2 uses the 6800 Ultra, and the 9300 uses the 6800. You can get a similarly configured XPS M170 for about the same price, and that would include the 7800 video card, which is the best in gaming at this point in time.

Anyway, I don't suggest the HP, as it has a desktop processor. The Asus would be a good option.
