XPS2 Reboot-Not Heat Related

Hi Folks,
I was having the same problem some folks were mentioning concerning the sudden shut down of the system without a blue screen of death and no problem log being written-- the computer was just killing over and restarting while playing “World of Warcraft (WoW)” which caused me to die many times---not good. So I did a search on the forums on "What causes sudden reboots on the XPS 2?" thinking it was heat related or maybe video card problem. After reading and applying most of the measures stated in the forums which helped with the diagnostics of my system led me to believe that it was not the video card or heat related but in my case it was a power supply problem. After replacing the power supply my XPS 2 has not had any sudden reboots and been running steady for the last couple of days which has allowed me to gain several levels and of course die but by my own dumbness-hehe.

If it happens again it's the video card, get a tech to come out and replace it. If not, good job

I had to have mine replaced since it was rebooting in CS:S, but it most certainly was not a heat issue since the temperature never exceeded 70C. Just a defective card.

Oh and if you talk to Dell they will ask you to run the Dell diagnostic and even format your computer from their own stock bloated installation. Just tell them you already did both (the diagnostic doesn't stress the card at all) and save yourself the hassle.

So, you're saying that replacing the power brick solved the problem?

interesting, even though ud think the battery would act as a sort of intermediary capacitor if the psu cannot provide enough power, wit the gpu overlcoked (so not throttling) full brightness full cpu speed running live for speed on full settings) im drawing 78 watts on battery! and the psu is 130 watts so there must be some sort of buffer?

In my case it seems like it was the power (Supply) brick that was causing my restarts, since I have done nothing else to the system. All I did was replaced the power supply and the reboots have stopped and haven't had one since.
