ahhhhhhh no my memory has arisen about that RIDICULOUS case/chassis BULL!@#$ I still can't believe how horrible that was and how they changed their web site half heartedly (only updated info on some pages!) after js or somebody called them about it not being fully magnesium alloy!

The Area-51m’s new magnesium alloy chassis allows for a lighter, more durable design.

* Chassis refers to the internal chassis and not to the entire external case.

That was me, alright. Y'know, they still have that TechTV video clip on their site that describes the Area-51m as having "a sleek, sturdy, metal CASE..." Not too bright, these Aliens, are they?

God that makes me irate lol. I remember that day as vividly as Sept. 11th...You posted the message about calling Alienware and complaining and after reading your message I hit refresh on the Alienware site and BOOM; there was the disclaimers about it not being fully magnesium alloy! Horrible horrible and no compensation to this day...I honestly think we could still get compensation; I have a printed invoice stating the magnesium alloy case and it doesn't say anything about case/chassis definitions and all that b.s..therefore i entered in a legal agreement with Alienware that I was purchasing such and they did not provide that. It may fall under the terms and conditions clause though:

Products. Alienware continually upgrades and revises its products and service offerings. Alienware may revise and discontinue products at any time without prior notice to customers. Alienware will ship products that have the functionality and performance of the products ordered, but changes between what is shipped and what is described in a specification sheet are possible. The parts and assemblies used in building Alienware products are selected from new and equivalent-to new parts and assemblies in accordance with industry practices. Spare parts may be new or reconditioned. The quoted Alienware SKU numbers for Alienware-branded hardware products are of the quality specified by Alienware on its website and conform in all material respects with the Alienware product specification current on the date such products were shipped.

Or maybe not. Maybe we start a petition web site? eheh

This is the (unofficial) Alienware Complaint Site
http://bewareofalienware.com/

I guess Alienwares worst fears are becoming reality. They need to somehow reverse the trend that is giving them this bad reputation. I remember when "alienware" stood for the best products in the world. But as a company gets larger so does the ratio of bad/good.

this site has a funny sound bite of an alienware agent explaining the 15% restocking fee even for a defective system. well, its not really that funny.

OK...I though I HAD too much time on my hands.

Surely there are issues that need to be addressed but come on, go outside and see the sun dude, go fishing, go to the lake...sheeesh.

You think Ford and GM don't have the same kind of sites all over the net? And does it do squat? No, it just proves that ONE unhappy customer tells ten (or thousands in this case) while a happy one tells ZERO. All I'm convinced of is that this guys knows html coding and has extra money to burn by hosting a web (wah wah) site.

He has never made a purchase from any of the other distributors he lists on his site yet he touts them like they're a sensible "alternative" to Alienware. He knows nothing of their business practices or customer service first hand. He's uninformed, unprepared and unrealistic in most of his views. The only thing he has going for him is that in fact he DID have a bad experience with Alienware, which I am not discounting ONE BIT.

By the way this guy blathers on about himself, I wouldn't be surprised if he was about the rudest person on the phone or in emails so that Alienware just said "Flip You". Every company/person has their limits.

very good perspective, once again. Alienware has tested my patience on more than one occasion. I have bitched and complained but have always been treated well by CIT. I dont think I would post to a site like that. This forum is more mature and everyone has a complaint once in a while. The alienware.com forum has a member called hammerhead. He goes absolutley out of his way to say how great Alienware is. So there is both sides of the spectrum out there.

I've traded barbs with Hammerhead, myself, but it grew tiresome because he reacts like a rotten child if anyone dares question Alienware's integrity. My correspondence and phone calls with Raul, of CIT, and David, the mobile systems product manager, have always been pleasant and friendly. My attitude began changing when my latest e-mails and calls regarding my refund were not acknowledged and returned. My credit card company can't do much until 30 days have passed since the return, so AW has about two more weeks to make things right. I have no intention or desire to go on an "I hate Alienware!" crusade (Aurora - remember Mageta?). I just want my money back, as was agreed when I decided to return my 51m.

OMG...now you guys are really freaking me out....

This thread was created before a problem had even happened...

...I...Feel...like...

A DANCING BANANNA!!!!

haha Mageta. yea. the racist eagle scout that was banned for provoking anti-alienware conversations. He liked to start trouble with alienware as much as hammerhead likes to defend alienware. Its a good forum once you become a recognized regular or at least recognize the regulars. yea if that makes sense. at least this a51m deal didnt affect your forum access. you would miss out on the alienware ceo (nelson) in the forum discussing how voodoo pc scammed the CGW contest and winning it with a system that was over the contest price limit. This is getting off the topic but did anyone see the 3DMark scores for the contest? The scores werent that outstanding. Voodoo won with 3582 and AW had 3102 (1280 X 960) I got that info from the thread hammerhead posted at the voodoo forum. These are desktops though..

Just a quick update on my Area-51m return... My card was credited on 12/01/03. It took a couple of days for the credit to be posted, but all is well.

Now, I can focus all my energy and impatience on waiting for my 4780!!!
Glad to hear it worked out for you JS...

Be sure to link us your Sager review here when it happens! Maybe something along the lines of "My AW and Sager Experiences - A Hobbit's Tale by JsWriter"

Hey JS, did they charge you the 15% restocking fee or did you get them to give you a full refund?

I agreed to a 10% restocking fee. My return was well after the 30-day window (63 days) so I wasn't too displeased by the fee. I'm just glad I got rid of that 51m and all of the headaches it caused.

My new Sager 4780 will be in my happy, happy hands tomorrow, just eight days after I ordered it!!! Sure beats the hell outta Alienware's 3+ week delivery backlogs!!!
