Laptop choices

Thread Starter
Fellas,

I need a new lappy.

I want 80-100gig HD 5,400 +
1gig ram
15.4inch widescreen (no bigger)
Dedicated GFX card 128MB +

I was looking at the new Sager with 256 x700, the Acer Ferrari 4005wlmi and the msi 1029.

Any ideas? Anything else I should look at. Budget of about $2000 but Im in the UK. I dont know how to get hold of the Sager or MSI here.??

I will be playing games but not all the time. Mainly used for setting up websites, broadband etc.

Should I spend the whole 2grand or get something cheaper?
I do want it to last though!!

Cheers for all the help. This forum is class.

Peace

Another 2 options are ASUS Z70VA and the ASUS Z71V. Both pretty solid machines. As for price, if your willing to spend money, do it. But you probably wont need all of that. Hard to say, I'm not sure what the conversion rate is from USD to UK.

I really like my msi 1029. great specs at 1250. i wouldn't recamend the sager. it is one heavy sucker. If you can't get the msi i would look at some asus. i've never used an asus but they are very highly recamended around here. i wouldn't get the acer. it costs alot.

Do not get Sager. Acer or Asus is your best bet. Go Acer if you get the money.

Ferrari, if u can get it used, as brand new it is a bit much. Otherwise, the ASUS z70va refresh with the X700 gfx card is an all around damn near perfect machine. 6 pounds (thats about 2.7kg to you britishers) and its got everything you need for a nice fragging or getting down to take care of most other (non gaming) activities.

I recommend checking out the Acer TM8104. Same exact specs as the Ferrari, except it has the Intel processor instead of AMD. You can pick one up for around $1,800. I don't see people talking about it much anymore, but around the beginning of the year, it was one of the most talked about notebooks on these forums. The Ferrari 4005 is newer by about 6 months, but has the same specs (except for the above mentioned processor brand). So give the 8104 a good solid look. I've not been disappointed in mine (though I did manage to crash the HD somehow, read my sig, as Acer fixed it and had it back to me within a week).

Good luck!
