Strange things with my HArd drive

Although this is not exactly 8790 problem, the HD is running in the 8790 so.. =P..

So my HD is sorta broken but..
anyways my hard drive seems to be having a strange problem. First off when I load, it makes this strange whirring noise. When I leave the HD bay lid open and feel the HD it heats up really fast.

And sometimes my fasttrack reports that the raid driver is offline but sometimes it is functional.

And very rarely it will actually load windows but it loads so incredibly slowly that the black and white bar before the windows loading screen takes about 30 seconds to scroll across the screen. While this is happening the HD gets very hot and I did twice get to the windows loading splash screen but I did not continue cuz I thought I was doinbg more damage than good.. Any help? Very strange behavior indeed.

ps.. I am running two toshiba 80 gig hd on stripe. My other hard drive which i Though was dead about three days ago seems to be working now but i dont know what all this means.

You have a lot of "stuff" working here and have not provided much info. "My other Drives"???? What does that mean. Also what does "sorta broken" mean? How about providing us the indicators/information regarding what the HDD are actually doing other than the heat "thing". Hot drives, in and of themselves, do not mean that the drive has failed or is failing - it just means they are hot. Laptop drives are normally a bit warmer than the ones in a desktop configuration on casual observation. Are you getting any weird sounds (or anything that you might think is either somewhat normal or abnormal).

Also, did you recently install any new equipment or upgrade software - Drivers qualify as software or maybe both.

eh? Well as I said the fasttrack sometimes says offline which means that HD is not recognized but sometimes it is and displays as being functional...

And when the drive is recognized, most of the time it cannot read the disk and says "operating system not found" but very rarey the disk is read and windows starts to load but incredibly slowly.. and during that time windows is being loaded rediculously slowly the HD heats up and continues to make funny noises..

I dont know how else to say this....

The "funny noise" (rattle/clatter) would be a clue that the drive(s) are going south/bad on you.

yeah strange thing is it is still somewhat being read so the disk iteslf is intect I got a strange feeling this is either the motor dieing or maybe a head fell or something. My other drive (which failed this weekend) used to make a slightly different noise but now it makes no noise and seems to be functional so I guess I will have to let this hd sit and see if the problem somehow fixes itself..
