Best BIOS for mobility 9800

I heard somewhere that you have to update your BIOS for the mobility 9800?? I bought my XPS in may of 2004 and my Bios is Rev02. Do I need to update them and if yes how do I go about doing that? Thanks.

Well from looking on Dell's website under the IXPS it shows that the latest bios for the MR9800 is version AO1. Not sure how yours says AO2. You sure that's not reffering to the version of your dell video driver?

I don't have an MR9800 yet. I just bought one from someone. Right now I have an ati mobility radeon 9700 128mb. When I boot up my computer it has the dell load screen and says Rev A02.

I'm talking about the actual Bios of the computer.

The most recent system BIOS for the Gen 1 XPS is version 06 here:

http://support.dell.com/support/down...95765&vercnt=5

It's set up as an executable file to run in Windows, so you don't need to save to floppy and run it in the BIOS setup page.

Just double-click in the Windows environment. Hurry. You're 4 Revs behind.

it wont let me update bios to a06 from a02!!! It says click ok when ac adaptor and battery are plugged in. Both of mine are but my battery doesnt work. Is that what is causing it for not letting me click okay? Please help!! I'm getting the mobility 9800 in a few days but I don't have rev a03 even which says that it adds support for newer video cards. Will I not be able to use that card if i cant update my bios?? Help!!

Is there a way I can force flash?
There was a video bios available and I remember upgrading to the latest version a long time back. As for the XPS bios itself, I have not flashed it to A06....I seem to remember some issues people were having with it. I am not quite sure if those issues have been addressed by Dell but if they have then please let me know and then I will upgrade.

Groto maybe try asking the members nicely for some of the older revisions of the bioses like A04 and A05 and then once you are able to upgrade to those versions, then try upgrading to the latest version. I could be wrong but maybe your system is complaining about the jump from A02 to A06 which kind of does not make sense, but then again who knows how they write bioses at Dell!

Ciao
So, maybe there are troubles to jump from 02 to 06? I would like to try this update if the bug black screen from suspend mode will be removed..

I used the /forceit command and it worked. Updated from A02 to A06. One more question though. When you flash from A02 to A06 does A06 include everything from a03, a04, and a05 since I missed those updates? Thanks.
Honestly that is a good question Groto...never really thought about it that way but I doubt that is the way things work. I think each update has the previous update plus a few mods...hence it is a new update. Since this is a BIOS we are talking about I think it will require the information from the previous version of the BIOS in the new version of the BIOS as well. Hope that is making sense.

I run A05 just because I like the controls over my fans as for your video card bios most likely when you get it, it will already have the newest bios on it.
AO6 will include all the updates.

If it didn't, they would give you the sequential bios updates till you reached AO6.

Good luck! One thing to keep in mind: with AO6 you cannot use the Fn+z+r function, but it works in all the previous versions.

Wow refubing a xps, web site only came up with A03, this is great. Dell's site lacks. Is A06 the last?
