The vents suck in air from the bottom...the GPU fan blows out the back left, the CPU fan blows out the top right. In my experience, they do not blow out air that is particularly hot, unless you put your hand right up to the vent. Also, the palmrests do not really even get warm, at least not in my experience...All the heat producing parts are further back...

from what Ive read, DONT OVERCLOCK THIS GPU. It gets really hot, and maybe thats your BSOD problem.

Hey Dio. Kudos again for an immensely helpful review. BTW, have you updated to newer GPU drivers recently? And if so, what kind of performance increase did you get? Whatever your most recent and/or most successful GPU drivers are, I would love the exact link. I'm getting a Z70va at the beginning of December, and am modelling mine after yours, with some spec upgrades.

Thanks again for putting out the review that finally made up my mind!

Dio: where'd you buy this machine?
Anybody else know of places I could get this lappy for a good price?
Can you get this notebook with a TV tuner?
Is the Z70Va just a refresh of the Z70V?

neb,
The Z70v is currently no longer in production. The Z70va is the update, and you can find that at several Asus resellers. Check out the "Asus Resellers by State & Province" sticky in Asus notebooks for all of them. If you ask around the forums, you'll hear good things about PROPortable, ISTNC, c9tech, Discount Laptops, & Geared2Play. And although it is possible to get one with an internal TV tuner, it fits in the same spot as the wireless card, so you couldn't have both an internal wireless card and a n internal TV tuner. If you're looking for that particular combo, check out the Asus W2v. It's one of the few (if not the only) notebook that has both, but it's considerably more expensive than the Z70va.

I use the Asus driver from there website http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us.
I tried several different driver omega and ATI'S own but it would not play nice with COD2 i would get the BSOD.

Im in the middle of building an Athlon box for gaming parts just came in (4400+ Asus 8N32SLI and a pair of 7800GT'S) and will start the build over the thanksgiving holidays.

I plugged my notebook to my 19" viewsonic via the vga out, and corrected the aspect ratio thru the control panel, and this notebook is truely a DTR if you wanted to be truely portable.
