ive alwyse thought name brand to be better becuse they make more money and can do more. Take a coke for example you drink a "coca-cola" then you go to walmart and buy walmart coloa.... the ingrediants from walmark are shit and cocacola has it down. think of the comp brands think how long they have been in bussiness all of that
tell me if you see the diffrence

The reason I picked my Dell over the Asus is simply(and only) because of the price. I only had $900 to use for my laptop. I got my I6000 with a 2Ghz Pentium M, WSXGA, x300 128mb, Bluetooth, WiFi a/b/g, and a bunch else for $880. The Asus is almost that much for the barebones! If I had had $1500 to spend I would have gotten the Asus no doubt, but I didn't. Next laptop I will build myself, but this one I just needed a budget Dell.

I don't think Dell is a bad company, but with the amount of stuff they build they are likely to have a large number of problems. That's why so many people hate them, because even if they had a .5% failure rate, but they sell 1,000,000 they'll have thousands of people that hate them and think they suck.

That's my $0.02 anyway.

its all preference. same debate as AMD and Intel if you ask me. i dont buy dell because i hate their unfair buiness habits. the fact that they sell only intel, that they are in cahoots with intel, really bothers me. ill pay (or not have a laptop or computer, as i do now) the extra cash so that i dont support the proverbial man. its the marketing that allows people to know about dell. my grandmother bought a dell because she dosent know squat about computers. everybody urges me to buy a dell, and in my opinion they dont know squat about dell. but there are people that know about computers that buy dell, and they get the best price performance ratio. ive never seen these 2 laptops in action, but i know what i want, and i know that 2000 for a ferrari AMD x700 laptop is right for me. i know i could get the msi for 1200, but not with a wsxga+ (i think) screen

naja... thats my $0.02 anyhow.

bahama i think i nearly peed my pants laughing at your response.

Dells business line of lappys is pretty solid, with the exception of the headphone noise issue on the d610, which ultimately stopped me from buying it, in addition to the outrageous cost for a relatively basic system. Big names like Dell, Gateway, and HP cant sell at the volume they do without selling at low prices, bottom line. And to accomplish these prices, they have to sacrifice something, and in most cases its build quality or component quality. But it also turns out that most people dont really care if they have a plastic case, aluminum magnesium or carbon fiber. Hell i doubt they even know the latter exist! Most people have very simple needs and a low budget, and the aforementioned companies do a very good job of getting their names out there and providing the people what they are looking for. And its harder for people to trust Asus or MSI or Acer simply because they havent heard of them before and cant get their hands on one or talk to someone who has one. Thats what forums like this one are good for. So yea, why buy a dell over asus? No one is going to have the same answer. Peoples' needs are different.
