Asus z70va/z71v opinions?

Well- first a question-

Does the laptop itself have a dipswitch, or would it have to be pinmodded?

Other than that, I was looking into a z70va barebones at $845, then scrounging up the other parts from various other places to the tune of:

Intel 725A to be pinmodded
1gig DDR2 ram for now
40/60gig 5400 rpm drive
2200BG wireless
DVD/CD-RW combo drive

From what I've seen, I could make the setup for $1230... that seem right?
Along the same line, I'm not opposed in the least to saving a little money and opting for the z71v.

Thoughts?

The Z71v has a dipswitch, the Z70va would have to be pin-modded.
Make sure that the DVDRW drive you get is the one Asus puts in (it's probably better to get it from an Asus reseller), otherwise it won't fit correctly.

Concurs with what Djembe said. For some odd reason $1230 seems like and extremely low price for a Z70Va. I'm looking at resellers of it and I'm seein like $1600+ for a config.

Well, I'm thinking that

$850 for a barebones (I've seen one or two around at that)
+$130 for 725 1.6 M (regular price on ebay) ((pinmod to 2.13))
+$90 for 1gig DDR2 4200 RAM (via newegg)
+$30 wireless (regular price for 2200BG that I've seen)
+$80 60Gb 5400rpm (via newegg)
+$85 for DVD/CDRW Combo drive specifically for z70va (saw this somewhere)
----------------------------------
$1260

(Don't care about bluetooth, DVD writer, wireless a (use LAN anyway), don't particularly care about having much more ram than that at the moment, I can get XP Pro and Office for cheap via school)

Keep in mind that these prices are purely speculation based on the little bits of research I've been doing in my spare time and are most likely low, but I can dream
