....Ok well actually it's not from scratch but almoust.
Everithing started a year before somewhere in october 2004. My dads lappy didn't wanted to charge the battery. A friend of from the work told him he has a laptop that has the same battery type that my dads lappy (230 CX) and can charge the battery. So what the hell... we will have two batterys. But I had no clue in what i'm getting in.
It was a Satellite 4200 with 500 Mhz Cel CPU, 8mb video, 64 RAM... and a lots of missing parts...: HDD, display, FDD, AC/DC adapter, keyboard. He gaved me an other 19V adapter, and an external FDD wich even today I don't know what to use for because it doesn't have an ordinary fdd conector.
We were looking at it with my dad, and had a genius idea! Lets build this one up and I will have a lappy to!
...the idea was nice....but then comes trouble!
Took the local newspaper and called every guy that had laptop parts. Of course none of them had FDD for that model, nor keyboard. One of them told me that he can bring me a diplay for about 240 Euros.
...what!.. hell no! I rather buy a good one for that!
Finally I met a guy on the local scrap market that brings laptop parts from other countrys. OK! Now I just needed money! Since I was so stupid that lost the tax free 2nd year on the universtity my money went on that (400). (i still have some bills to pay - but at least I'v got back to the non tax section 
). Told him to bring me an FDD and a keyboard to complete mine cause it had missing buttons. He did! But he brought only a keyb because he didn't found any fdd. Well Ok. Search on your next trip!
This is how the lappy looked like after mounting in the new keyb:

Lucky me I'v got a half time work, so I could go to classes and after that I go to work and I'm still alive!
So here comes money!!!! 
Went back to the guy: "Bring me a display and an FDD!"
He did..... just that the fdd was BIGGER then the original. Ok, at least I have the display. But of course fortune doesn't really likes me so it took me two hours to start it becasue had some cable problems (some of the pins didn't had good contact). Now I need a HDD... found one for abut 65 Euros (40 GB Toshiba), just had to wait another month to next salary.
After a month (we are already in mai 2005). I was dieing to start that lappy already and see it work!
Everithing works (exept the FDD) so lets install! ....nothing..."error reading cab file". WHAT?!?!?!? Don't do this to me!
A friend who is really into linux gaved me his suse boot cd which has a CPU and RAM test program. Lets run them! Guess what..... EVERY F***ING ram byte had errors in it. Thats why it couldn't load the windows. He could wrote to the ram but no read-back! Then I becamed pissed of!
I almoust smashed the whole lappy! I just wanted to kill it! But took a deep breath, cooled down, and called my guy.
My luck (I wander if I have something like that anyway ) in two weeks he was on roads again, and promised to bring me an other mobo.
Last week I'v called him when can I go after the mobo. I went to him, and surprise.... HE BROUGHT A BLOODY LAPTOP. It was a 4030. He told me that it is the same. "yeah sure" even the name speaks for it self that it is an older one, but what the hell. It had everithing exept display and HDD wich I already had.
If it is a full lappy it should work fine, right?

Well NO!!!!!
It took me 3 f***ing hours to start the display. First the backlights electric system was burned out. Quick change from the 4200 and its ok. we have light! But we also have some beatifull, colored stripes all over the scree!!! Blody cable! Chaked the connectors, pins, cleaned them ...nothing! Ok lets change the cable to. But wait!... they were uncompatible!!!!
Well then its time for a 4 hand work. Called a friend to help. and we measured every bloody pin-to-pin cable with a multimeter. We ended up with a cable not responding. Time for a level 4 service: You have to build yourself a special tool wich is : 2 needles and a piece of wire!

With it we checked if we "repplace the broken cable will it start? And YES it did!!!!! http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/6834/20yl.jpg
It took us another hour to replace the broken cables (because after that we found another one that was hold up by only a small piece of wire).
Now finally it works. You can watch movies (only if you aren't a quality freak), play some older games, word processing, mp3, basicly what an avarege user can do with it.
The final config is this:
Toshiba Satellite 4030 CDT
- 300 MHz CPU
- 2.5 MB video (that one hurts - max Heroes 3)
- 64 Mb RAM (currently searching for another 128)
- Sound card ("Bass reflex" speakers - more details in the thread about the line in problem)
- 54K modem (what am I going to use that for )
- irda, USB 1.1
- 24x CD-ROM
- FDD (finally a working one)
- 13.3" DSTN display -
- ....and the best part ......... 40 GB, 4200 rpm Toshiba HDD...
p.s. : I was in a hurry so I didn't really check the story for spelling mistakes!
