Volt mod your 6800go non Ultra L@@K here! - Page 17

hey guys. i tried to use the boot cd that I made and it didnt work. I am goign to have to look at the original post again and figure it out. It wouldnt boot from the cd. Anyway I will try again later because I have class. I am pumped about htis even though it will probably only be like 0.05v difference or something. I think it is worth the shot because others were trying the vid1 and that resulted in an undervolt clearly so I dont see how doing this is any more dangerous than what about 10 peoplee already did in this thread. Am I right? I dont thin there is much risk at all.

SUCCESS!!!!!

I flashed the bios with the one I have here and my idle was 44C before and is 50C now. When I use the clock settings in the nvidia control I can test settings about 15 mhz faster than before. So I have to test now but it works so far. The bios has the same numbers so the bios does not need to be forced in. Quick and easy. Anybody else gona try with me. I will test and post back. I have a nv42 core by the way. And the tested settings are at 410MHZ

God damn man, good show

Let us know how stable it is and if you get any artifacts. Great job .

i may be buying a 6800 ultra for 50 bucks shipped so if i do ill try this before i put in the ultra!

Ok guys I got some good news and some bad...but it isnt all that bad. First of all the volt mod worked and I have tested 3dmark at 410/800 and was artifact free but I did not finisht eh test because I had to leave. Anyway the bad news is this was on battery, when I tried it at 410 core on AC it locked up instantly in 3dmark 06...and I mean instantly. But on battery (9Cell) it was rock stable. Hence this mod worked but i dont know how far I will push it. It is clear that the 90W power supply is not enough for whatever voltage it is that the vid 3 stands for. I am probably just as shocked as anyone else. 410 out of a NV42 core is crazy if you ask me. I can probably push it farther...wait till i have the guts. And for all of you interested the good bios is the last one I posted, the others have to be forced in, this one doesnt.

It isn't really 410mhz on battery though. Powermizer automatically lowers the clock settings to a certain value when running on battery. The battery doesn't provide enough power to the video card for it to run on full power.

I am keeping my 6800 no ultra incase my system breaks under warranty cuz i in stalled the 7800gtx. When i get some time ill try it on my 6800 cuz i have the 130 brick as well. good find, if it works maybe my 6800 will be worth a little more.

Just tried flashing your BIOS. I saw no change whatsoever in overclocking potential. I raised the core up to 400, saw a crapload of artifacts. Bumped it down to 390 and no more artifacts. I didn't see a big temperature change either. You wouldn't (and shouldn't) see a change in idle temp anyways because the 2D voltage is still the same.
when i said idle i meant at 3d speed...i dont bother with that 2d shit. haha Anyway I have seen a small change, I tried to go higher on the core but it failed after that(artifacting) I noticed before that i could go arund 400 so maybe i just pushed it alittle further and it worked. It was clearly running hotter though. SO I do belive the voltage is slightly higher but i dont htink very much at all. If anything maybe people can use it to stablize and almost perfect oc. Just a though guys. I might just have a good core too. And i am not rubbing that in either. sorry

I wil probably lower the 2d voltage and see if it results in more battery life as well.

Oh no, I do understand and I definitely appreciate your hard work on this little mod. To be honest, I used Nvidia's control panel to overclock and it actually let me pass the test at 400mhz and even at 405mhz (when it never did before). So it must have done something. I'll keep trying.

Great job schrivedawg!
The voltage seems to be a little higher now. If the increase is linear and logical the new voltage should be about 1.15 Volt - thats totally okay.

And we learned something for futher bios moding - the VID have to be changed, and not only the LABEL

Again great job!
does volt moding increase the core or memory more?

edit: just wondreing what bios clocks i need
post #333 of 336
dont need bios clocks you can do it in the nvidia control panel. it only changes the core voltage
post #334 of 336
and this is for the non ultra but i am assuming this would work for th eultra to...JUST MAKE SURE YOU EDIT THE ULTRA BIOS NOT THE NON-ULTRA BIOS, sorry had to make that clear, and now that i know you have an ultra you will have to cahrge it in the bios, only the core should change.
The 6800 Ultra Go already runs on VID 07 and maximum vcore with the stock bios - so thats not a mod for the 6800 ultra go!

@schrivedawg
Could you increase your core-rate a little?

I am a little confused, you are saying because I have an ultra I must make a new bios with the higher voltages? and this will only change the core clock, and there is no way that I can increase my memory clocks(assuming I am already at my max stable clock)
