Will the Windows OS disc Dell sends you work on any computer?

Kind of a lame question but I just want to make sure. Is there anythying special you have to do or will it work like any other OS that you buy from the store?

Unless they've changed it, it won't work in any other computer. It will install fine and all but you'll have problems with it wanting to be a Dell PC.

I know you can use any Dell CD in any Dell and it won't ask you for a key (great feature btw).

i used my old win xp prof on my homemade pc (no dell at all) and it all works fine without any problems!!!

I actually just built a new machine Monday. The only thing I kept out of the Dell I had was the processor. I used the copy of Windows that Dell gave me. It would not activate. I called Microsoft and they had me activated in 5 minutes.

So yes it will work.

I'd like to know where Dell draws the line. I have a massive stack of OS CDs from Dell that are BIOS-locked and will not run the setup program on anything but a Dell. They range from Win2k without any service packs all the way through XP SP2, so this is not a new thing. But I keep seeing people that can install theirs anywhere.

I love that. I was able to buy a new dell windows xp pro cd on ebay for $15

I put it on every dell computer

if you use like xp pro to upgrade an xp home edition, it will ask for the key, but if you do a complete format, it doesnt ask
