ASUS Z70VA
The hardest part of buying a laptop for, was choosing the one I will not regret of buying. What I needed was hard to find, it needed to be able to play all the games I want it to, have a powerfull CPU and be able to watch movies and burn CDs. It's not easy to find a powerfull laptop, especially one with a powefull graphic card to play all todays games and play games in the near future. The only computer I could find that had a powerfull graphic card and be overall powerfull was the Dell 9300. I was set to buy it, especially because of its great price with the coupons dell has. Before buying it I went to see it with my own eyes. Once I saw that 17" screen and overall size of the laptop...I knew it was not for me. So all my re-search had to restart to look for a laptop 14"-15" and there was the Asus Z70v. It looked beautiful, it had a great design and it was slim and light for the size/POWER. The ATI X600 64mb video card worried me, but not for long, once they announced that there will be a refreshed model coming out with a ATI X700 128mb video card and internal bluetooth. I knew I would like it, so i placed a preorder at www.istnc.com
The specs are as followed:
Pentium M 2.0 GHz
15.4" WSXGA TFT Display 1680 x 1050
80GB/8MB Cache 5400RPM (Seageta)
1GB DDR2-4200 (1x1gb)
ATI x700 128MB
DVDRW - Dual Layer
Internal Bluetooth Adapter
Windows XP Pro
I purchased this laptop from www.istnc.com and paid $1663 + S/H. I think I got a great deal and I don't regret it one bit!
The Build/Design:
There is only one word to describe the built quality and the design of this laptop "WOW" This is the best looking laptop I have ever seen. It looked good on pictures but looks even better on real life. It's made from Carbon-Fiber, so its tough but light weight. I weight just under 6lbs with the CD/DVD bay in and 5.6 with the travel drawer in. The it's notthe smallest laptop around, but it it has all the power you have in a desktop and its still easy to carry around. Its nice and slim as well. The screen is amzing, it has verry little wobble and when I press on it from the back, there is no ripple.
The Screen.
The screen in beautiful like the rest of the laptop. It's a 15.4" WSXGA TFT Display 1680 x 1050. Some say its too big of a resolution, but I love all the desktop space and you can arrange that your icons and words look bigger so its no problem for me. The viewing angels a great, you can see the screen from every angle, its one of the first thing people see when they look at the lapto, after the design of course. There is verry little like leakage and no dead pixles. You can adjust the screen brightness between 15 different levels.
The Speakers
Another great thing, it has 4 speakers, 2 on the screen and 2 under the laptop in front. It has like a mini surround sound system, they are pretty powerfull and crisp and clear. Its okay to listen to music in your room and to watch a DVD, but if you need it to play at a party, then you need some speakers.
The Pocessor and Preformance
The processor is a Pentium M Centrino 2.0Ghz and it runs great. It's fast and runs multi tasking great. I got 1gb of ram because that helps a lot in multi tasking and also for gaming and I have another free slot for another 1gb in the future. There isn't much to say, it does everything I throw at it and even when i throw many thing at once. The video card is great, played Couter Strike Source with everything on high and runs great. I'm sure I can play everything I throw at it and I scored 2449 on 3dmark05 with stock drivers.
The Keyboard and Touchpad
The keyboard feels nice, its quiet and it has zero flex anywhere on the keyboard. The keys are placed perfectly for me. Some people complain that the CTRL and the FN key should switch places, but I like it this way. I like how the CTRL is closer to the fingers. The mouspad is another thing that looks amazing. It nice because its black so it doesnt get dirty and matches the laptop, its also rectangular like the screen and the buttons look beautiful, sturdy and flashy.
Operating System and Software:
I ordered it with no Operating System and the software that came with it were a big surprise. All the drivers are on one CD so its quick and easy to install. The other cds that came with it were: AsusDVD, CyberLink Power Director, Media@Showcase and Nero. All that software is great and works nice,
Customer Support
The costumer service at ISTNC was amazing!! I mostly spoke to Rick and he answered all my question in matter of minutes or instantly while chatting. I also spoke to Gwen and it was the same. I got the regular 1yr warranty, but it was possible to upgrade to 3yrs for additional money. The packing was great, you coud probabely drop it from a building and it would still be okay (not suggested though) I give istnc 10/10 for everything!!!
Pros:
Dsign and Built quality
Preformance
Size/weight
Graphic Card
Internal Bluetooth
Beautiful screen
Great costumer service
Cons:
Gets a little worm on the top left palm rest, but its minimal and doesnt bother me.
I really cant find anything with this laptop that I would change...Asus did a amazing job on this one
Conclusion:
I am super happy with this laptop and I think I have made the right choice going with Asus and purchasing from ISTNC. It was easy quick and now I have a beautiful laptop to show off. I would seriously give this laptop 10/10. It has everything and it does everything I need and more. Special thanks to Rick.
If you want any pictures, let me know and I will take them for you.
