I currently have 128MB ATI Radeon straight from Dell. Could i upgrade this to a better one?? Thanks

Unless you can find a card with the same form factor, it's not gonna happen. I'm pretty sure that the 6800 has no chance of working with the 6000. Unfortunately, laptop parts aren't as interchangeable as desktop parts

If you wanted an all-out gaming machine you did not make a wise choice.

Honestly, how many times has this question been addressed? The search function is something I've found to be very useful.

Search function is down

Oh, well in that case I take my comment back. I guess I shouldn't just assume things.

buying it direct from dell wont really cahnge that dell did not design any other card to fit inside the i6000. you are limited to what they make available for that machine based on the internal configuration and the cooling capability. cards for machines like the xps m170 are not as restricted in terms of dimensions becuase those systems are physically larger and offer more space.

I think it is likely we will be able to upgrade our systems as soon as nVidia and ATi release their next gen mobile processors and Dell uses them. I think it is likely that Dell will stick with the same form factor. I think that physically, the X300, 6800 and 6800U are the exact same size, but the heatsink in the 6000 wouldn't be very good for getting rid of the heat generated by the 6800.

Now, when X1300 mobiles come out, maybe we could upgrade. Maybe the thermals of the X1600 mobile will be low enough that they would work. It's just a matter of wait and see right now, but as soon as something else becomes available, I'm going to try it.

The X300 and 6800 cannot be the same size, the 6800 has a much larger core, a more complicated PCB and more memory so even ignoring the thermal and power requirements, it has to be bigger.

My friend tried putting his 6800 in a 6000... just couldn't close the cover...

Are you for sure that we can play bf2? is it with low settings because i would be really happy if i can. I have not received the laptop yet so i have not tried it. What is the difference between 6000D and 6000UMA? because in Australia they only have one type which is 6000UMA? is it better or worse or the same? Thanks!!!
well, i dont know what the 6000UMA is, but i have the 6000d witht he 128mb card. I play at 1600 x 1200 with aa on 2x and environment on medium. Everything else is on low. I do overclock the card, though.

If you have the shared or integrated graphics, you cannot upgrade your video. If you have the 64mb x300 you CAN upgrade to the 128mb x300. But uf you want to upgrade your video and you have shared/integrated then you would have to get a new board that has dedicated graphics.

And yes, I also play BF2 on mine with the 128mb x300. Havent really messed with the settings so cant tell you what the max I have been able to do is.

It's not about the physical ability of a video card to be upgraded. Sure a X1300 would probably fit into the power regs of that notebook, but as it stands, it makes no economical sense for Dell to offer it. What percentage of people would actually go and buy that upgrade?
