Hard drive issue?

Hi guys (and gals)

I have a very annoying issue that I need desperate help in solving, so any help/advice much appreciated.

I have the latest HP nc6120 laptop (Ive put a review up a few months ago on here already). Its got a dothan chip with 512MB RAM. Its a great machine, but now its causing me problems.

The problem I need help resolving is this -

The laptop runs VERY SLOWWWW. Restarting, loading any programs (including loading the control panel!), and booting from power off all take forever. I have 512 RAM and a new dothan pentium chip (not celeron, or ULV chip), so there no reason for this slow performance. Ive done all the usual - Anit virus check, spyware check, defrag, msconfig to check out background programs, updated all my drivers and BIOS. Still no answer. I am beginning to think I have a problem with my Harddrive...Ive done the 'device troubleshooting check' through windows XP and it found nothing wrong. There is clearly something slowing down my hard drive...any ideas????

Thanks for your help

it is possible for the computer to run slow if there is a bad sector on the hard drive. laptop hard drives are very prone to go bad for the reason of people moving the laptop well the hard drive is writing on the disk and in turn scratching the disk. i would suggest to test the hard drive with a program called Ontrack Disk Manger. it will tell you if there is anything wrong with the hard drive. hope this helps Hellbringer
