Laptop Sound

Thread Starter
My 8887 has pretty crappy sound when outputed from the headphone/line out jack, so I have been looking into external soundcards. I use my laptop with just a stereo I have on my desk. I use it to pretty much just play MP3s, but there is some gaming too. I would like better sound coming from the speakers because the with the built in sound, there are slight pops and crackles in the songs which I know are not the MP3 file. What is a good external sound card to use?

I was thinking about the echo indigo io. Is this a nice soundcard? Has anyone here used it? What are yall's opinions on it? I also need the input jack, so the regular indigo would not work.

thanks for your help.

The Echo is excellent. I have no problems and it sounds great. The crackles and pops were on my 8890, and even with the Echo I heard them. The problem was grounding when using the AC adapter. It wasn't there when using the battery. I used a three prong to two prong adapter to lift the ground, and the noise went away.

Surf the forums on the echo indigo. I think a lot of people have recommended it over time. Possibly also the Exigy. Good luck.

Are you using the adapter with two prongs? That's what got rid of my noise. Search this site for other audio problems. I have also turned off my IR from the control panel.

Yeah, you probably have a ground loop. This was on the forums a while back, maybe it was you who started it, can't remember.

tried it with running the laptop on battery power, still loud humming, i was told it could be the hard drive noise, if this is so how i am supposed to run it through a sound system ?
Any ideas

If you still have it with the battery (and the AC isn't plugged in), then you don't have a grounding problem. Check the threads for IR disabling. Otherwise I would call Sager.
