Do you also know what other laptops use the same caddy? In particular I'm wondering about compatibiliy with the caddy from the tecra 8100/8200 the 9000/9100 or the M1, as I can find these on ebay.
Sorry man,
I have no idea what caddy is.

Thanks. I just found one on ebay that's supposed to work in all of the following models:

Tecra 8100, 8200, 9000, 9100, A3, A4, M1, M2, M2V, M3, S1, S2
Satellite A80, A85, M20, M45, P20, P25
Satellite Pro M10, M15
Portege 4000, 4005, 4010, M100 Series

So I guess it is the same.

cj2600, can u tell me where exactly the video card (fx go 5200) in the Toshiba M2 which u dissasembled is situated? i looked at all the pictures and coudn't find it pls don't tell men it's soldered on the motherboard, i was hopeing to change it to an fx5600 or 5700 sometime

I'm betting you're not going to be able to swp the graphics card. There are VERY few laptops in which this is possible (like less than 1% of those currently on the market, not counting older ones). Now, with MXM and the like, the connections are compatible, but it's still up to the manufacturers to deal with the heat dissipation and construct the actual graphics cards within the space they have. If it wasn't a configurable option for the laptop when it was new, I'd bet my money it's not going to happen.

Use the guide for the M55. All you have to do is carefully remove the KB retainer strip and lift the keyboard.

I found this a whie back thanks to Splat, but everytime I need it I can't find the link so I'm reposting it in a logical place.

There's a complete maintenance manual from toshiba for the Tecra 8100.

Links are:
ch0
ch1
ch2
ch3 part 1
ch3 part 2
ch4
The appedices are also there, just change the characters after the lastbackslash ('/') and before .html to app and the appendix letter (for example appa for Appendix A, appb for Appendix B, and so on through to Appendix I).

There are also some of the others there too. Just change Tecra to Satellite and/or 8100 to the appropriate model number. With the later P3's and on they switched to a part number scheme and so you'd need theToshiba part number fo the model to get the appropriate manual. If I find the time I'll try to get at some of them.

The tecra A6 and Satellite M100 look the same...can you confirm if they're the same chassis?

Any luck getting these?
Hi there,

At CEBIT I was told by Toshiba that none of their lappies are MXM, even though I had reports that teh Tecra S3 is MXM.

Any thoughts?

Hey, CJ, we really appreciate all this!

do the M100, A5, and A6 all share the same chassis?
The a5 will not have the same chassis because it is a 14" and the other two are 15.4". The A6 and M100 MIGHT share the chassis, but I've never seen either in person to be able to confirn or refute it.

Wow, great guides!

We will probably be linking to some of the guides for additional info for our customers in our future Toshiba parts listings.

Personally tearing apart laptops is easy for us and fun to do while watching a movie on the couch (haha). But for most people it can be a daunting idea to tear apart their baby.

Thanks cj2600!

Those really are some great guides!

Thanks for taking the time out. I see you're a guitar player to, eh?

Excellant work

I would have thought my Satellite 1135 would have been a common model and included in your examples. Would one of the others closely resemble mine? If so, which would I look at for a basic disassembly guide?
