Hi guys, just thought I'd pass on the info that I just picked up a 1gig stick of Kingston DDR2 533 Mhz Ram and Its as stable as can be, can definitely recommend it!

Also now playing BF2 with 1.5Gigs of RAM definitely improves performance!, much smoother game play, no more stuttering during explosions or intense battles! Also Alt-tabbing out of the game to the desktop is as smooth and quick as!!!

This computer just keeps on rockin!!!!

Look at what's printed on the chip. Look for a name, symbol and/or the numbers. They will all indicate what brand chip you have.

I just bought 2 GB of PC4200 DDR2 for my XPS hoping to increase performance in BF2...not that it was really slow, but I've read that the extra memory makes a huge difference.

First off, when I installed the 2 sticks of memory my lappy recognized 1.25 GBs...then upon closer inspection it turns out that one of the chips was indeed only 256MB, but labelled and packaged as a 1GB...BASTARDS. Luckily I just picked it up locally. So I took the 256 out and put in one of the 512s for 1.5GB in total. The increase in performance was negligble for me, but I don't know if it's because the dual channel wasn't working properly due to the different chips...not sure. Anyways, I decided that it wasn't worth the extra $300 CAD to save a few seconds on load times. Maybe with the full 2GB the difference would be more noticeable. I just got smacked with a dental bill that insurance was supposed to cover so that ate up a chunk of change.

Those are quality sticks. They can be found cheaper for other brands.

not sure what sticks are on the kingston.. id have to open the bay and have a look (Lazy) lol. As for the Dell RAM...theres an "M" symbol on the chips and the code on the sticker says "MT8HTF6464HDY-53EB3" not sure what this all means... On the kingston box the code is "KVR533D2S4/1G"

As for the performance.. the load times are slightly quicker.. but I just find that now I dont get as much stutter.. actually I get hardly any at all. Before with 1Gig the game would usually stutter with big explosions or in intense battles.. Im guessing this was all Load-time related.. as now it just doesnt happen! Dont think going up to 2Gig will make much of a differences though.. as now the game uses ~705Mb or RAM when I check in Task manager.. and theres still a lot more available for it. With 1Gig it took up about 535Mb of RAM and obviously Cached the rest in the swap file.

Im about to check the FEAR demo as I had similar stuttering problems with that game with 1Gig.. will post back soon to let you know the results.

ok im back.. just tested FEAR demo... 1.5Gig makes a HUGE difference.. battle scenes dont stutter at all! especially when you fight that machine type guy and you need to use slow motion.. absolutely no stutter! Guys I truely think that these newer games will almost by default require at least 1.5- 2gig RAM to get the best uninterrupted game play.. so far Ive noticed this in BF2 and FEAR demo.. both very demanding games. Ps all my settings were maxed out!

There is no dual channel advantage with the Pentium M on the i9300/XPS 2 because single channel RAM at 533MHz is already at equal bandwidth to the PM's 533MHz bus.
