okay now i'm getting really worried - missing restore points

Dear all,

In addition to my pointer issues, whilst looking at system restore today it says that I have no restore points to go back to, when I know I have loads that I created plus ones that were created automatically.

Where have they gone?

Any help appreciated.

did you disable the restore-option of xp?

Not to my knowledge. But in my event log the system has a critical error reported with a restore.

I have read on an XP forum that this can cause all former restore points to be deleted and XP does not create more point automatically until I do one manually, which I have now done.

How do I check if XP is doing this?

look at your log and try to find the hex error code which should be something like 0x002341e1 or something and do a search for that code to get a specific answer to your problem. Here are some solutions

- must have a minimum of 200mb of hd space for Restore Point to work.
- make sure your logged in as administrator
- Open Administrative Tools, click Computer Management, and then click Services and Applications. Click Services, and double-click System Restore Services from the list. Verify the service is started and running. If not, under Service status, click Start and change the startup type to Automatic.
- check to see if you can do a restore point in safe mode.
