Resetting the BIOS

Hey folks:

Anyone have a clue as to how to reset the bios on a 9880? This is brand new notebook and I can't get the stupid thing to work. I loaded the drivers so it would recognize the hard-drive , but now I can't get into the BIOS when the system is posting to see if the pc card reader is disabled so I can load XP, and it pisses me off that I just paid about 3k for a notebook and Sager doesn't have 27/7 tech support. I figure that I could just pull the CMOS battery, but I don't know if that will viod the warranty and I don't know where it is. I am new to the laptop scene.
Thanks people.

It should be in the user's manual. On mine I hit f2 to enter bios. I had to reset the bios once on it, I pulled the main battery and ac and pressed and held the power button for about 10-15 seconds and that took care of it. Give it a shot.

Well for some reason when I hit F2 it still tries to post and find the OS....F2 doesn't work. That is why I need another way to reset it. I did try your way thoug, but to no avail. Thanks anyways

Try holding down any key on the keyboard during boot. Some pc's recognize that as a stuck key and put u into the bios.

try upgrading the bios , download the latest form the sagers website and upgrade it. becauase by default the first boot device is set to usb floppy so you don't need to set it via bios. try this and let us know if it works, because one of the issues resolved in the latest bios was ' can't get into bios by pressing f2' , good luck.

bsmith,

When you reset your bios in that way, did it reset the password, too?

I have never been into my bios, and didn't need to until recently, but it tells me I need a password, and I have no idea what that would be or why there would be one there. Maybe from whoever set it up? I tried just hitting enter, and that didn't work, so I suppose there is definitely a password I need. I have a Sager 9860.

Thanks,

Sherri

If it did I have no way of knowing as I never set one. Might be time for an email to sager on it.

Yes, I am thinking I am need to resort to a phone call. I tried the email route with a part I didn't receive when I got my computer, but couldn't get them to ever answer, so emailing doesn't sound like a good route for me..

Thank you for answering so quickly!

I read about trying "Sager" "SAGER", etc. or "Password" or "password". Or similar variations of those.

Anyone know if you can "short" the BIOS on the 98xx's, like on some desktops? On my desktop which has an Asus motherboard, if I short one of the jumpers (as suggested in it's owner's manual), it resets the bios and clears the BIOS password.

dont blame sager, not all companies have the technology for 27/7 support

To reset the whole bios and password in the 9xxx u simply have to remove the CMOS.
Remove keyboard and plate beneath it, the CMOS battery wil be right infront of u just remove it for a couple of seconds and put it back.

The bios will restart and show RAID enabled, press f2 to get to bios and choose where u'd like ATA or RAID to normaly boot.

Hmm.....maybe I keep overlooking it, but I can't find anything in my manual regarding removing the keyboard. My last laptop had two release latches on the top just above the keys, but I am not finding anything like that.

I tried removing the battery/AC and pressing the power button, but nothing happened, so I am hoping Atype007's way will help.

Does anyone know how to remove the keyboard? Also, will that negate the warranty?
