one final post? probably not, I like it here.....but I will sum up.

Pros
1. Nice looking machine, seems well built, nice form factor
2. Great screen, but I am not crazy about the matte finish
3. Processor power galore
4. Video power sufficient to run most todays games
5. Lotsa bonus like the vid cam

Cons
1. HATE the chirp, HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT
2. A little warm in spots but winters coming...
3. Screen a little dim, may have to do with the finish
4. Touchpad was not so great
5. Hmmm, cant think of another negative

Returned because no one else said anything about the friggen chirp and I was worried that I may have a bad motherboard. Did not get another one because I needs must have the 7800 GTX

I am a little concerned that the 5720 will be big, I really wish the 5320 could support the GF 7800 card...I would have stayed with it due to the size. But I made my bed I will sleep in it....Friday actually! So maybe a small review (on the 5720 vs. 5320) will be forthcoming if anyone is interested.....

Since this is the most active 5320 thread...i guess i'll ask it here. This is to all of u NP5320 owners. How good can this system play FEAR? Given that its probably the most intensive game out there as of right now. What kind of settings can it be played on?
BW2 is also insanely GFX intensive =P

do you mean bf2? It ran just fine on the 5320. Cant remember the fps though...

This is what customer support said about the issue...notice how they don't acknowledge it but go directly to the possible solutions. Anyone try this yet, seeing how I don't have a 5320? Figured that you guys are probably smart enough to do all of this already...but hey if you guys didn't? Here it is....
This is what they said about it.

"What we will try to do is disable some sounding and see if still doing it.

Can you try this first Go to start, Then all programs, Then Accessories, Then Entertainment, Then Volume Control. When open volume control click on properties make sure it is on (“Realtek HD Audio Rear Output”)

Also it is on playback. Then selected the following CD volume, Blue in, PC Beep. Then mute the following CD volume, Blue in, PC Beep."

Sager's tech support has proven to be basically entirely disinterested in dealing with these issues. Their responses to me (which take several days to arrive) deal with one aspect of one problem at a time - I've written them about multiple issues but they simply ignore the others.

They deny the chirping issue is reproducible in-house:

"We do hear noise from the headphone. But the noise is not chirping. It is more or less like static noise. By mute the CD volume, the Blue in volume and the PC Beep volume, the noise is gone. If the noise on your computer is not static, probably, we need to check the computer."

This is nonsense, of course. Multiple users have reported the same issue, so they're clearly aware that there's a problem. But since I have to email multiple times to get any response, I can only assume at this point that they're simply hoping to string me along until my 30-day return period has expired.

I have nothing good to say about my experience with Sager so far. I've had better tech support on Dell laptops costing half the price. I assumed for boutique prices I'd be able to rely on exemplary service. Apparantly I was wrong.

I'll be returning my 5320 if I haven't received entirely satisfactory solutions to all of my complaints by the end of the business day Monday, and I encourage the rest of you to not simply "live with it". Manufacturers of crap should lose customers.

Black and White 2 =P

Are there ANY good units out there?!
Im sure there are... most people only post when theres a problem, IMO people, if the computer is in working order, 90% of the time just use it, and rarely take the time to write a good solid review. However, if somethings wrong, 99% of people will complain.
well....the thing was these people were on the forums before the purchased the computer. After they did...they all happened to have this problem. If they came to the forums asking for help then that would be different but they were old users who said that they would review it as soon as they get it. So thats like randomly picking several 5320 and happening to get all bad ones. Thats what worries me

well, 5720 has the same sound issue. Its just got crappy sound. Also the build quality seems a bit cheaper than the 5320

On the plus side the screen is one of the nicest I have ever seen, plus the graphics I have seen so far rock. I will be installing Fear later today to see what happens.

I'm sticking with my 5320. Its a nice machine and its got a lot of power. I love it.

Be realistic though, its a TINY chirping with headphones only. No other time have I heard this chirping. Most sounds do drown it out. The native speakers of this machine are actually very very nice for laptop speakers. They produce very nice sound. And external speakers dont produce the chirp.

Congrats on your new comp though doc! Enjoy your huge video power

i both agree and disagree. The chirp is minor, but I spent alot o' cash on this baby. enough that I could have built a screaming dual-core tower. But I am getting used to it. As for the externals I wish you could hear my old P3m machines with the JBL speakers. Obviously i bought a laptop so the built-in speakers are not important to me, but headphones are....which brings us back to the chirp!
That being said I am keeping this machine. Perfection does not exist in this imperfect world. And I never thought games like FEAR could run on a laptop that was not a honkin' brick.
So sound aside, and some minor plastic quality issues, I'm happy.

and if youve seen my posts thats saying something!

now I'm gonna do my dance

Glad you're enjoying it! Dance away!

hey how are the 7200 hard drives under HDtune? What kind of scores do you get for them. I average over 100mb/s on my desktop but i've heard that the lappys only get around 25+ is that true....how does the 7200rpm do under this kind of test. Comming from a desktop and going to a laptop worries me; is it slow?

Would it really suffer if games were runned from the HDD in the form of an ISO? *dual batteries so games run on hdd*
post #96 of 126
it would be much faster if you run from an iso. cd drives are slow as hell.

so far i am very pleased with my 5320. as an audiophile the chirp is bothersome but i picked up a usb device from turtle beach for twentyfive that took care of that. everything else is great, barring any unforseen issues i will be keeping mine as well

Hey Turtle,

whats that device you got? The answer to the chirp has been found but the audio quality is still pretty bad.
Hey wait aminute...lonely turtle....turtle beach...any connection?
is there any quality deterioration because you use the usb headphones? What kind of quality can u get out of that thing?
it's called an audio advantage micro. the device itself is about the size of a flash drive with an analog or digital output. if you get one it will want a dedicated port so think about that before installing because it won't ask. the sound is rich and has great low end, music sounds really good run through my stereo. when playing games there some times is a very low static but only when there is a lull in the sound track, may be the game. it comes with some soft that has the same effects as the nero, a bunch of silly crap i can't think of a use for.

newegg has them for 24.99, or if you live near a fry's they are 29.99, probably the same after shipping.

and i am a land turtle, tortuga, no sand in sight

hey i just realized there is a detailed review of this device about fifteen threads down
