i8600: how to boot from PCMCIA Hard Drive??

OK,

I thought this would be easy. I stick in my Toshiba 5gb PCMCIA hard drive, format as fat32, and then install win98 on it.

Well, I can't seem to boot/see it at all when booting into win98 Dos off of my flash drive!

So, what's the trick to get this drive recognized and able to install Windows 98SE on it???

I could be wrong but I don't think Dells supports booting from PCMCIA devices in the BIOS. If you can't select it as a boot option from there I don't see how you could boot from it.

Well, yes I've found no option in the BIOS....so this is what I thought....

1. Boot into Win98 DOS via USB flash drive
a. load up some type of PCMCIA driver in the config.sys/autoexec.bat

2. Then, Run Win98 from the PCMCIA drive.

I used to do this with a floppy disk - When the disk was in the drive - it booted Win98. When I removed the disk, it booted Win2k

Any suggestions about what driver to load for access to a FAT32 formatted 5GB Toshiba Type II PC Card?
