3 hours on Z70v - about right?

Im getting roughly 3 hours on battery with my Z70v. I am using wireless and doing basic browsing and office work. I havent touched the brightness of the screen, but I believe it dims a tad when you go onto battery power. I am using CHC and its running at 6x (799mhz) from its normal 1.73ghz

Sound about right? I know some people are getting more time. Are they dimming the screen even more to achieve this?

and I think they are also undervolting which can help you gain another 15 minutes or so plus the laptop runs cooler so its a win / win.

Sounds right if you aren't dimming the screen...but if you really dim the thing, you'll get quite a bit more life. I'll bet that I can get over four hours with undervolting and dimming the screen down to about 1 or 2 ticks above the dimmest setting...also, you might want to underclock your GPU using ATI tool or the Omega drivers...I underclock mine to 100/120, which is the same speed that Powerplay sets it to. Of course, underclocking the GPU doesn't make a whole lot of difference in battery life, but it'll squeeze a few more minutes out of the battery...

Squeeze 10-15 more from undervolting CPU
Squeeze 5-10 from Underclocking GPU
30-45 from brightness

Well more than an extra hour there =P

True. I get about 4 hours when I'm "officing".

A lot less when I game, though.

Alright, new test...

Started up the notebook at 8:00 with 100%. Its now 10:49 and battery indicates 26 minutes left.

I have the brightness turned down to the 5th line, which is less than half. CHC is clocked down to 6x (799mhz) and video clocked down to 104/121. CPU temp has been around 53

So, around 3 hours amd 10 minutes. I wish I knew how some of you were getting 4 hours. Also, I have been typing and doing work pretty much non stop, no monitor sleep or such.

If I have my brightness on the third tick (counting the lowest as one), my battery estimate is just under four hours...that's with wireless on...With the wireless off, it jumps to like 4:15. My cpu temp is hovering at about 45-46...

I lose about 20 minutes of battery in the estimate by moving from the third tick up to the fifth tick in brightness.

Not to hijack, but does anyone have any experience with the modular battery on the Z70v? How much extra time does it add?

I find the quote thing to be BS when the battery is full. Its telling me 4:30 right now, I highly doubt I will get that.

On that note, are you people who are getting 4 hours basing it on actual use, or the estimate?
