The good, the bad, and the stupid.

New user to the forums. Glad I found this place to give me info for notebooks. Anyway I thought I would explain by AW situation so far.

Ordered my 7700 system back in late July. Delivery took longer than expected, partly my fault because I was working so much and neglected to send my info in for the financing of the computer. I was happy with the time it took to get to me. Too bad things like that always come on days I work, so I raced home to get to get the ticket so I could pick it up from the local FedEx depot. Thank god the driver had made it back in time, I don't think I could've waited another day. Brought it home, hooked up the accessories already waiting and the machine hummed like a dream.

First problem occured about a month and half after I had the system. For some reason the battery wouldn't charge with the system plugged in. called customer support and they were very helpful and friendly. Had a hard time understanding some of the accents but all in all a good experience. They determined I needed a new battery, duh. So in order to not be without my system, I ordered the new one and they shipped it out right away. I was leary of this option because they had to place a hold on my credit card for the amount of the battery in case I didn't send my old one back. I had heard of issues with charges being made even after they received it back, but thought it was the best and easiest way. Needless to say it arrived in quick fashion with a prepaid label to return the old battery back. All is well. Worked well and no ill effects on the computer of my credit card. A+ for effort.

Now another issue leads to the bad part about my computer. About a week later I was playing a game and the computer just shut off. It reminded me of a power surge, but nothing else was affected. Then I started to smell something burning like PCB board. had me worried but not too much because I knew the computer gets hot, that's why I got the laptop cooler. So I unplugged the system and checked it over, no harm no foul, plugged it back in and turned right on. No ill effects other than it showed no AC adapter power. The computer would only run off the battery. No matter what I could do I only had about 30-40 minutes of useable time before I would lose the computer, it was strange however that the AC adapter would charge the battery but not run the computer. Talked to AW support and the guy seemed knowledgeable and told me to send the computer back for service. I knew it was the only way to fix a power problem...Was told a turnaround time of 3 days shipping, 3-4 days diagnostics/repair, 3 days shipping back...Yeah right!

So 3 weeks later and countless inquiries into my system I get an e-mail saying my system is being shipped back to me. YEAH!!! I was even home when it was to arrive first thing in the morning. I was told the MB died and was replaced, they didn't even have to wipe the drives clean...so no long day of reinstalling all my crap. Pulled it out of the box, good as new, only....no AC adapter. Since it was a power issue they told me to send in the AC adapter to have it checked as well, it didn't make the return trip home. Friday morning and all I had was a $3600 12 lb paper weight sitting on my desk. Had enough time and power on the battery to check everything was ok but that was it. If waiting 3 weeks for a computer was bad, having it but not being able to use it is worse! called AW service rigtht away and he said sorry blah blah blah and would get it out "soon". Didn't get a timetable but soon....!?!? Told them I wanted ASAP and was told it would be done. Stewed over this a little longer and decided I wanted an extra adapter so I don't have to lug the heavy thing from home to work. I called sales and ordered a new one...what a bonus it was on sale. Now the stupid part. I told the sales guy my story and said I wanted it shipped out next day air because I had nothing to use for my laptop. I was told that they don't use next day air for or two day air...get this.... damage to packages. That was the ONLY excuse I got. So you're telling me damage only occurs to next day air and no express or ground packages!?! What kind of a company does not offer next day air...I was willing pay whatever the price to get it to work.

Called on Monday to see status and the new AC adapter was shipped Monday and the one from service was shipped Friday, both normal shipping. Was told I should have them by the end of this week. Frickin great!!!

Sorry to rant and rave I am just a little upset I have a great system at home that works well when I can use it...but I can't because of a small power cable.

I like AW don't get me wrong. So far the only problem I have had. I have been wanting one for years and finally have the opportunity to get one I am going to cherish it for awhile. I just had to vent to someone.

That does sound frustrating, but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel.

It's true that AW no longer offers overnight or second day unless specifically arranged for. The reason is the full systems take much more damage in the overnight shipping than ground.

I agree with you that warranty parts should be at least second day, but that's not the way they roll now.

We should all get a second charger... i should get one tom...

Warranty parts should definitely be second day... they're shipping my new card "sometime in the next four business days" and it's being shipped ground from Miami. Can anyone say 7+ days to the west coast? =)

yes BSIBackPlayer, my green light on the charger came on and it seemed to work just fine. It charged the abttery just fine, however would not run the computer.

Ok update to my wonderful story. I have a lot of patience for something like this. I don't get really mad at someone over the phone because I've worked customer service and been on the other end of someone else' mistakes.

So called Monday after I ordered a new AC adapter and asked my original one to be returned. Talked to customer service and the guy told me the forgotten one was sent out Friday, right after I called and they noticed the mistake. The new one was shipped Monday, both ground and should be here by Wednesday or Thursday. Well at least they were shipped out right away...even though it was ground. never got an e-mail from their shipping department though.

Tuesday got the e-mails for tracking numbers. Checking out the info it both packages shipped on Tuesday night....not like customer service told me. I was happily suprised that both were shipped two day air so that was nice. But both shipped out after I was told they were already coming. Grrr. I don't like to keep saying bad things about AW, but so far I am not impressed over the company I have been drooling about for years.

Anyone ever have problems with windows taking a long time to load. Sometimes it never loads and I have to restart the computer a few times....then it takes 2-3 minuts for windows to come on and load!? I am thinking once the adapters come tomorrow I will do a full reinstall.

Sounds like a reinstall would be a good idea... I had a similar problem on a machine for a while. Turns out the boot sector was corrupted, so a reinstall fixed it. Also make sure the memory is seated well, and the hd cables are also firmly attached.

The way it was explained to me a long, long time ago, was that AW does so much business with FedEx, they have a depot at AW's manufacturing facility. A lot of the time, when AW tells you it's shipped, it means it's been delivered to FedEx on site. FedEx then scans the product into the system when they load it up. Sounds to me like AW sent the package to shipping on Monday, and it took them a day to get it processed.

I'm at least glad to hear you got second day air.

Reinstalled everytihn on the latop and it's running much ebtter now....40 seconds to boot instead of 40 minutes. Don't know what I isntalled that messed it up the first time.

More AW results:

The good: Shipped my 2 ac adapters 2 day air instead of ground.
The bad: Apparently it takes 2 days from Florida to reach memphis and another 2 days to reach me. 4 day total time and a wasted day of waiting for no Fedex truck!

The good: I bought an extra AC adapter so I won't have this problem again, and to take to work because that sucker is heavy.
The bad: Aside from being 2 days late, it was the wrong one. Even after the standard "2 min hold" with the customer service rep who talked to the technician and this was the correct AC adapter I needed. I received the 180 W version instead of 220W, which is what the 6800Go ULTRA needs.

At least I got my original back so I am happy. Finally a working FAST computer!!!! Now back to World of Warcraft!!!

My patience is getting thinner!
