I dont play any games except for Madden 2006 and other EA games but I wanted to have the ability to play some games like Half Life 1 and 2, the old quakes, and perhaps even the new stuff like DOOM 3 on my computer. I wanted to go for the Dell inspiron 6000 because it's smaller but I called dell they told me you couldn't put a GeForce Go 6800 in there. Does anyone know if you could buy one and put it in there yourself or have someone else put it in there without voiding the warranty? If not i'll probably just go with the 6000 with the x300 128 vid card. My dad has a inspiron 9200 and his computer runs the Radeon 9700 128 mb card and it runs madden fine, not perfect but fine. How much of a step up or step down is the X300 in comparison to the 9700?

my x300 will play doom3 fine at medium settings.

also, search button.......

you cant buy one and put it in, it wont close, wont cool right, wont run, will set your laptop on fire basically (:
x300 is similar to 9600 i think. not sure

so that means the X300 is a downgrade from the 9700?

Not really sure as well. Check out benches on the web. I think the x300 is a better buy because it is built on the newer proc and that way oclocking the settings would prob give more of a boost in perf than the 9700 would. Again this is just speculation and on another note...chevyz blow!

let me guess....FORD? blah, had em, fixed em, fixed em again, and again, and again...

notice a pattern? (: for all its worth, it was a 91 5.0gt

x300 is pretty much the same as a 9700 i think, i wouldnt get your hopes up on it. i wouldve gotten a 9300 with 6800 if i could do it again. however, i dont game, and the 6000 suits me fine.

i do know that the x300 128 played WoW fine at high settings on 1280x1024 with aa and af on 2x

The X300 in a 6000 is around the same speed as a Mobility 9600 Pro Turbo. I think the 9600 is just a tad faster. I think most 3DMark scores put it around 1400 in 2k5, and my X300 scores about 1300. The 9700 Pro is slightly faster, I think most 2k5 scores put it in the 1600-1800 range.

Not that 3DM2k5 should be the end-all-be-all benchmark, but it gives you a good idea of performance differences.

The X600 compares just a tad slower than MR9700, so guess where the X300 falls?
MR9600 Pro is about the same as X600.
X300 compares nicely to desktop overclocked ATi 8500/9100, which is not a bad thing (and better than ATi 9000/9200).
X700 is a tad faster than MR9700.

I have one i9200 with MR9700, and two i6000's with X300.
No comparison.
X300 "can" be used for games, but MR9700 "will" be used for games.
MR9700 in gaming is about 30% faster than X300 when both are stock clocked.
Of course you can overclock X300 to almost hit MR9700 stock speeds.
But of course you can also overclock MR9700.

Try AOE III with X300 and see what is in store.
AOE III works great at high settings with MR9700.

Don't have Madden 2006, but with 2005 you are correct, the MR9700 works fine, and the X300 also works at reduced settings 800x600. HL2 is a game that both perform well in, with MR9700 slightly higher quality of course. Again, in these games the X300 compares to my desktop ATi 8500.

I am very impressed with the x300 128mb so far, not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

My old system was 1.7/512mb@333/60gb@7200rpm/mr 9700 128mb. My current system in my sig is 1.6/512mb@400/60gb@5400rpm/x300 128mb. With the mr9700 I used Omega drivers, with the x300 it is at stock settings. My 3dmark03 scores are closer than I thought they would be:

mr 9700= 2990
mr x300= 2776

My Dell 700m could play Madden '05 at medium settings just fine, so I'm sure the x300 can handle more than people give it credit for.
