Help me find a laptop!

Hello everyone, I'm out looking for my first ever laptop and I'd appreciate some help!

- I want it to be light and mobile
- I want it to have decent batterylife
- I want it to have a good graphics-card(somewhere along x700)
- I want it to look good!
The lappy may be expensive but not _too_ expensive(mb around the price of a 9300 without coupons).

I live in Sweden so my choices are kind of limited and therefor I want a lot of different suggestions - and if you happen to be a Swede I'd also like some directlinks to stores.

I dont want any low quality laptop but rather something that will last at least 1 year, so mb I should look for a Turon to be future-proof?

A laptop I've seen and really like was the Acer Ferrari 4005WLMi, tho it felt kind of expensive.

The Sony S series is an excellent all around thin and light, featuring a Geforce Go 6200 GPU and excellent design and battery life. I'm not sure if that's available in Sweden, but it's a good computer. Also look to Asus and Acer.

I don't know how much the 9300 is but you can get the Samsung X50 WVM 2130 for about 2600euros. It really is the ultimate lightweight laptop. Its pricey but i'm getting one. Good luck with your search.

I dont really like the Sony's but I'll have a look into them anyway

I can afford a 2600euro lappy but as I said earlier, I'd rather look for a bit cheaper laptop first. Otherwise I could just buy the Ferrari 4005 right away :P

Any more suggestions?

Sonys are really nice, actually.

I'm playing Half Life 2 at full resolution (WUXGA 1920 x 1200) with every setting maxed out...no problems. My sager 3880 cost just under 2000US$ + shipping(MUCH cheaper than 2600 euros) Screen is gorgeous and I get over 4 hours of battery life while using wireless internet. I'd probably get more if I dimmed the sceen down a bit and turned the wireless off.

I'm actually looking into shipping a Sager into Sweden atm, but first I want to check out something "closer" ;D

you might want to get one of the asus w series. they are much better than the sonys IMO. they have models with screen sizes going from 12 inches to 17 inches and they are all really nice. they should also be pretty affordable in euros.

sonys use cheap parts(like 4200rpm drives), over charge for upgrades, and have the worst support in the industry AFAIK.

asus makes some of sonys notebooks, so their models are similair in many ways. the asus ones however use more aluminum, have faster video cards, and use better parts. sonys are mostly plastic and probably cost more than a similair "built by asus"

oh, and sager isnt bad either. sagers are cheaper/faster than asus, but asus notebooks look better and are more mobile. it just depends on what you want, both are good.

Please list a specific notebook to help the OP. In particular, how about you find an Asus that will run alongside the Sony-S equipped with the 6200? Otherwise, don't be critical of other's suggestions. My g/f owns a Sony and it's an amazing machine that hasn't had any problems, and performs admirably with only modest to below average specs, as it's an ultraportable as well.

Sony does have bad support, I believe, but their computers are pretty good.

the sony s series is not really meant for gaming. i dont think it will do him much good to find him a similair asus.

i cant tell him which asus to buy because:

1. they might have different names in different countries, the OP is from sweden so suggesting something like a z70va might mean absolutely nothing to him when he goes to buy from a swedish reseller.

2. i cant read his mind, i dont know EXACTLY what he wants, i dont know exactly what syle he likes, i dont know what he is willing to sacrifice. However, the entire line of asus notebooks, IMO, is very good and i recommend he look at what is avaiable in sweden and buy one that he likes.

BTW: i wasnt being critical of your suggestion, it wasnt meant to be an insult or anything. Sonys are not bad, but i think he can get a better notebook from asus with the same money.

I don't think there is a good SONY gaming laptop...They never have decent graphics cards. I've heard of a user modding his A-series notebook but that's a bit too much work for me even though I love the screens.

That and the fact that their support really is terrible. Sony makes good laptops, but if and when you have trouble, you really need to fight to get things fixed. Asus has a few good gaming notebooks, I remember looking into the z70 or something like that.

Thanks for lots of good posts!

I've been out looking at some ASUS models, but I cant find any good models anywhere(very limited supply of ASUS'ers) - I threw away a mail to their support earlier today asking about the Z70Va and what it's called in Sweden(if it's released in Sweden).

I cant find any good Sonys(they all seem pretty... well... bad), but I'm gonna look some more.

Two new comps I've dug up have been Lifebook S7020 and Thinkpad T43 or some model from the Z-series(tho Z is very hard to find in Sweden) - but the Thinkpad have kind of bad graph-cards and are VERY expensive(considering what you get).

Any opinion on those two? (Or more suggestions for that matter)

both fujitsu and ibm are very good. fujitsu has some of the nicest lcd's and ibm are the best quality and best keyboards.

however, both of them are pretty expensive compared to similair models from other companies. again, it all depends on what you want.

do you have the asus v6v in sweden? i thought that one was very nice, and i think it would be a good laptop for you. it is only about 1800US.

I found this lappy :
ASUS V6858VUP, for a decent price.
Is that the one you're refering to?

The cons with that one is 64mb x600 and, non widescreen and only 512RAM.

I'm gonna look some more for Z70Va in Sweden.

More suggestions?
