So we all know the basics:
-change background wallpaper
-change splashscreen
-get gdesklets or superkaramba
-get 3ddesktop
-change icons
-change gtk or qt theme
- custom fonts?

well....what else is there to do in terms of theming and customizing your perfect linux desktop (gnome or kde prefferably, but others ok too).

Here is a pic of my job on my Ubuntu:

some stuff you can't see on the screenshot:
- 3ddesktop
-ubuntu users know the default background color is brown, regardless of wallpaper, i changed that color to black so it works better with my theme.

-also you can't see my splash screen, but here is a screeny of that:

anyway....anything else i can do to spice it up?

xcomp transparency and shadows(only works fully for us nvidia users though, you can still try on ATI)

i have it installed but nothing happens..

3ddesktop is very nice. Its enough to impress the win users :P
i prefer my desktop clean and simple
no kde or gnome craps

since i use ubuntu this is what i had to do:

step 1: install (apt-get install 3ddesktop)

step2: run it and get screenshots (run "3ddesk --acquire" in terminal)

step 3: edit metacity and mount 3ddesk to my F12 key

the result:
----------
when i press F12, it works its thing

oh and btw....dimr...nice screenies. me like. if i ever get tired of the BS of gnome and the dark colors i might convert

look at #9.

for when assigning the key, don't bother pressing the F12 key, literally type in the letter "F" and then "12" so it looks like "F12" (without the quotes)
