9300 XP Pro - Battlefield 2 Splash Screen Hang

Hello all,
I was extremely excited to get my 9300 tonight and the first thing I did was format the drive, do a fresh install of xp pro, install the chipset drivers, install the latest drivers from laptovideo2go (with INF), complete windows update, latest wireless nic drivers, etc... Think I got everything...

Everything looks great... ok next test...

Installed Battlefield 2 and run... loads the splash, reads the cd.. and just hangs at splash...

Sooooo, I try the 1.03 (direct from 1.0 install to 1.03).... same behavior...

HELP!!

I know if anyone can help, you all can... Appreciate it... (I have tried rolling back to the second most recent laptopvideo2go drivers)...

Thanks.

EDIT: Ok, so I realized it sounded like the DVD drive was reading the cd the whole time it looked like it was hung.... The CD is perfectly clean w/ no scratches (I bought the game for the record, it's a legit cd.).... Soooo, for a test I installed the mini-image and everything works great now... BUT it doesn't answer the question of why the cd doesn't read...

Am I missing a drive for the drive? I show the following in device manager:
TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L532B

Should I be complaining about this Toshiba drive?

Thanks folks... I know the topic isn't really related anymore, possible I should start a new thread?

This could be a corrupt install.

If your using a no-cd crack, that also causes this error.. same with the mini-image's. Since you say your using the cd, i'm assuming you are not using either.

I'd try a reinstall, then maybe new video drivers.

He said it runs fine the the cd crack....

Did you try installing any other games or programs that require a CD/DVD yet? I'd check that first to see if it was just something with BF.

Don't know if this will work, but if you have any firewall software, McAfee or Notran, make sure they aren't blocking BF2 from the internet.

Well, it is a clean install of Windows XP Pro (With firewall turned off), and it's definately related to the DVD Drive. I guess I can try another CD, but it bothers me that a brand new computer would have difficulty reading this brand new media period.

hey mate I have had similar problems with BF2 when i tried to use drivers from laptovideo2go... i had to uninstall the drivers reinstall the dell drivers (78.11) and then uninstall and reinstall BF2 and presto! it worked fine

I also had the same problem and the problem was the cd was in the drive but not reading, so I inserted it and took it back out and then it worked.

How'd you manage to make an image? I tried using Alcohol 120% and kept receiving errors.

Well, I did try that several times (reinserting the disc.) I think I will just be forced to install Call of Duty and see how it works with it's cd check.

Ummmm, I used what's called a mini image. Meaning it contains only enough data to mount as a virtual drive (using daemon tools) and make the program pass it's cd check. The whole image is only about 1.5mb and is a much better solution than a full 700mb image ripped from the cd sitting on my HD. (Or carrying around the disc everywhere.)

Note: Before anyone starts flaming me, I bought and paid for my copy of battlefield AND it is 100% legal to use an image to bypass a cd check provided the software was purchased legally.

thanks a lot for the link, way more convenient than keeping the disc in (and it always spins up for no reason)

Assuming the disc is protected by Safedisc....
Anytime you try to create an image of a cd protected by SafeDisc 2 or 3 with Alcohol 120 there will be errors between around 1,000-10,000....just ignore them...let the image creation keep going and the errors will stop

Uhmm, I heard from someone that you can get the mini image at gamecopyworld.com......
