Question about nVidia 7800 upgrade

Luke, you posted:

"The cost of nVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7800 GTX upgrade/swapout kit package includes, the 7800 GTX Card, a new 220Watt AC Adapter, and new revision v:6.1+ motherboard."

Here's my question: I have a 9860 that was upgraded to the 9880 (6800 ultra). Don't I already have a 220 watt power supply? If so, would the cost of the upgrade be less?

Thanks.

I'll try to bump this one more time. If there's no response I'll just forget about it until someone else raises the question. I probably won't upgrade until after the new year anyway.

Hmm I am pretty sure there is a rule against thread jacking.

Not really trying to jack up the thread, just trying to get a simple answer to what I thought was a simple question. Did I miss something obvious? That is, did Luke already post the answer to this question elswehere? Did I miss it in some faq (I did search)?

Not sure how i missed this post .... There needs to be an option that the post just automatically opens when my name is mentioned . To your question though. You will get an extra ACA, Sager does not want to unbundle that from the package deal of the upgrade currently. So that is the current package deal they are willing to offer.

a $1,000 is pretty expensive for going from the 6800 Ultra to the 7800 GTX, you are not going to see that much difference, I am sure that you'll have other bottlenecks before that unless you are going for the nice 3DMark05 score.

you could actually try to sell your lappy and with the extra $1,000 you could get the AMD processor, which happens to also have the 7800 GTX. May be for few bucks you could end up with a better processor and a laptop with no miles on it.

I think the upgrade price is too darn high, as well. I didn't realize Sager is making those of us (9880) that already have an ac adapter that's capable of powering the 7800, to buy YET ANOTHER ONE!

If it's a different version needed to power this new card, well...that's fine and understandable but, if it's the same identical one, power output-wise, then that's just a complete rip off.

As someone else stated, it's just not worth it when you figure in the ridiculous cost vs. the bump up in performance.

Think I'll wait and see if there's a card that's above the 7800 that we might be able to upgrade too. I'd rather have a bigger bump in performance for this price range.

this ones for luke, how long are they going to offer the upgrade? is going to be an on going thing? the upgrade i am referring to is the for the 9860 so it can run the newer video cards.

Sorry it took me so long to post but the thread jacking was not directed at you Bomb. It was directed to someone else who was trying to get a petition going to send to nVidia about mobile drivers, but it appears that his posts have been deleted (either by him or one of the mods). Also, it appears that his posts have disappeared from another forum that I happen to frequent [H]. Once again I apologize to Bomb for the misunderstanding.

If you got the money to spend go for it, if not I'm sure the ultra will work great. Where did you get the update from? Sager? Cause I've got the X800 and thinking about going with the 7800

Hey,they give you $50 if you let them keep the old one... they really need to up that amount.

So... Sager wants me to pay for a new power brick that's *identical* to the one I already have for my 9880? I'm confused; why would Sager force customers to pay for a power brick they don't need??

Luke or anyone else at PCT, will you explain Sager's logic on this?

Unless Sager rethinks this seemingly bizarre decision I'll be skipping this upgrade.

I wonder if the next graphic card requires a mobo replacement if they will make you get a third power supply?
