Interesting development on the washed out screen issue

I just got off the phone with Darwin@Alienware, and he said that the "washed out" issue is caused by a bad LCD. I thought this was a bit odd, as it appears everyone may have a "bad LCD". Has anyone else heard of this? He seemed pretty confident in his answer and I got the impression it was something they had "just" figured out.

It appears my snow/pixelation/BSOD issues with the video are infact caused by a defective video card.

Given the other problems and the apparent "defective LCD" they want to RMA the computer for Depot Repair.

You actually believe what an Alienware representative tells you? You need to be repremanded lmao

It did seem like kind of a strange response regarding the LCD. I am calling back and seeing if I can get another rep to confirm that.

eheh..that's my point! Every time you call you'll get a different answer if I know my Alienware and I do ;-) haha

Ok.

I spoke with James Sanders, who is much higher up on the food chain apparently. First off let me say James was EXTREMELY helpful and accomodating. He immediately dissmed the LCD issue and said the screen washout is a software issue they are trying to work out along with the other ATI glitches.
Regarding my defective video card, he is sending out a replacement unit immediately and even offered phone assistance for installing when I recieved it.
Hopefully, this new card will solve my problems. I definately feel more comfortable about my situation after speaking with James.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Yes it is only the vid card. For ati the 7.95 drivers fixed it for me

But wait a minute...didn't darwin say all the LCD's were bad

I don;t think Darwin know's anything about what's happening.

P.S.-I just ordered my A51 desktop. 7 business days now.

Maybe Darwin might be a statistic of the "Darwin's Theory".

You are going to love your desktop. Mine is fast as hell.

They said the same thing to me and sent me out a new card and guess what I still have the same problem I had before after an hour of play everything goes wacky if I turn down my settings I might be able to stretch it to 1.5 hrs. I am pretty sure I am going to have to send mine back. The latest solution they gave me ws to completely reformat my hard drive and reinstall. Good luck I hope that this new card really does fix your problem cause it sure as hell didn't fix mine.

Did he mention if ATi is helping in this rewrite of drivers? Or is it just AW Techs?

These are ATI drivers, not AW ones... though God only knows what the hell AW will do to them.

My recommendation is to use the Omega drivers, you can find them at www.omegaheaven.com (I think... the correct link is listed in another post). For those that are unaware, the Omega drivers are nothing more than the official ATI drivers with some tweaks and optimizations. Frighteningly, they are more stable than the ATI drivers... at least thusfar.

Washout? LCD Problems? I bumped to the latest Omega set and haven't had any issues... not saying that is the cure (though unless you speak with someone from the AW CIT team, don't believe a word that the techs say) but I find it interesting that on here and the AW boards, that all the folks that have been using these drivers have had no issues.

Has anyone else here tried these Omega drivers? Success? Failure? Stayed the course?

Inquiring minds want to know

I know of one other in my area who swears by them... sadly he doesn't post here. But there are a few posts about the drivers if you look around.

Well I recieved my replacment card. It seems to have fixed the problem. Game performance is significantly improved and where the CPU fan would kick in at full steam with only 5 mins of game play, it now stays in the low setting for 45mins to an hour before it kicks on.
I am definately convinced the old ATI card was overheating.

could you please explain more in depth what happened while playing with your old card? i´m having this issue where i get lots and lots of noise/snow/pixelation in very nasty neoncolours after a little while of gameplay. also, the fans on my comp sounds like an tomahawk missile taking off when i play games. other than that i can play everything maxed out. but this nasty pixelation is making me angry, cause my little brother can kill me in call of duty when it kicks in=(

after reading your first post on this tread i get the impression it´s only while watching videos that you suffered from nasty snow. was there any pixelation during gameplay?

Actually it occured when the GPU was really being taxed. Games, 3DMark, you name it. That problem you are having is exactly what I had. The GPU is overheating.
Call up tech support and ask for a replacment card.

thanks for the help, i really apreciate it.
i´ve been thinking about calling tech, but i´m rather afraid to do that (because of my bad english, and my general fear for the phone=)) but now enough people have told me that that is the only solution. gonna phone them tomorrow...
also. how did they handle all this. did you have to send you´r card first, or was it possible to have them send first,. this is rather crucial (oh, i´m trying a new word. did it fit in?) to me as i work as a graphics designer, and i´m really a dead man if i don´t have a working computer in front of me all the time.
ah, and the last question. did you have to pay anything when returning your card? i got 3 nice stickers that look like they are like very big stamps, and maybe they are the ticket to a cheap return?

They can send you the replacement card first, but they will charge you for it. When they receive the bad one, they will remove the charge for the new one.
