gaming on ferrari 4000?

hey guys,
i know a lot of you really like your 4000's, and i'm definitely looking at getting one. I will mostly be using it for 3D CAD and gaming. I'm sure CAD will work well, but, in general, how does the rig perform gaming-wise? I will be using it for nearly everything, as i will be living in a dorm. Will it run the newest games well?

I dont have my ferrari 4002 yet but from what I know, is that, the video card inside, the x700 should be able to play all games currently released.

Dont expect to run native res with all graphics maxed, but it is fully capable of playing any game with average graphics settings.

i use the omega drivers and play bf2 most often these days... very playable at the 1024x resolution and most settings on high. unless you want to shell out anotehr grand or more, you won't see much better performance in games in another laptop. make sure you have at least a gig of ram if you are getting the 4002, like mine...

I've been playing a bit of doom 3, 1024 resolution, max settings. It runs beautifully and i'm more than happy. If you wanted a dedicated games machine i think the xps gen 2 would be more suited, but for an overall great machine I love my ferrari so much!

I run auto cad and Pro/E on mine all the time and it does great. Also Hl2 on native rez with most setting maxed I get 50+ fps

Doom 3 works fine with my 4005 as well. The only problem I've noticed is that if I try to adjust the volume using fn plus down arrow or up arrow key the whole frame freezes for probably 10 or 15 seconds while it processes that instruction.

You're right, i get the same thing. I play with a headset so i normally adjust the volume on the headset itself. No biggie though.

If you "remove" the onscreen visual graphics (the green bars), you can still use the fn buttons to adjust the volume - without any slowdown in the frame rate.

Ah so it's the display of the bars rather than the volume itself that causes the slowdown That makes sense.

I didn't realize I could remove the visual graphics for the volume.

Thanks!

One way is to exit the ACER launch manager.. (located in the system tray)
