Wouldn't this be better answered in the Sager forum? Anyway I can't comment on Sager because I've never owned one, but if you're worried about breaking your laptop Dell does have Complete Care. If you choose that option, any accidental damage to the laptop is covered pretty much.

This raises an interesting question:

What's the difference between the two brands when it comes to things that can break?

CPU, RAM, hard drives, CD drives... those are all the same. Fans? Probably both are of similar quality. What's left? The motherboard?

What really brakes in a laptop?

Well the e-machines people would be able to tell that the hinges on the LCD casing can break. Basically the differences are all in the casing/keyboard I would assume.

I work with a guy that has a Sager, he has had his far share of problems with it. Weird ones too like the power brick connection and keyboard issues. I’ve had two Dells’ one Compaq, and one Gateway. The Dells’ seam to work the best and I have had zero problems with any of there hardware. Plus later on down the road, need parts, hit ebay there’s tons of stuff for the Dells, little for other brands.

The chassis itself is rather important - poor build quality can cause issues with the chassis such as unwanted cracks or coming apart. More important is the cooling, which is tailored to the individual chassis, if the cooling is inadeqaute or poorly designed it can lead to premature failure of hot components inside the laptop, or the cooling system itself failing because it's getting clogged.
