Probably to have a HD with enough space to store the clips.

no, you video card is going to croak if you try. Also, you need a high res screen, 1920 x 1600 for 1080p HD.

heh, you must be using a low quality hd clip. True HD is 1080P, and you wont be able to tke advantage of it unless your screen is 1900*1600, and it appears your is not. And i can almost guarantee yous is skipping.

You can download a bunch of WMV-HD clips here. MS says a 2.4Ghz (or equiv) CPU and 64mb vid card is needed for 720p (1280x720) playback and 3.0Ghz (or equiv) and 128mb vid card is needed for 1080p (1920x1080).

Just about any modern computer can play the 720p videos no problem, but the 1080p vids need a powerful CPU and video card for smooth playback.

I have played the 1080p videos on my AthlonXP 2400+ desktop PC and they play ok, though it skips a little. My laptop with a Dothan 1.7 plays them a bit better, though still not perfectly.

Windows Media HD clips play easier than QuickTime HD clips (in my experience), but either way, you're probably going to need a processor equivalent or better than a 2 Ghz P4, a video card equivalent or better than an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 with 128 MB of dedicated VRAM, and at least 512 MB of system RAM.

edit: Oh, and you can play 1080p clips on a system with a lower res than 1920x1080. It will just shrink the image slightly to fit the screen.

Yeah Djembe is right on that last part.

I play 1080i and 1080p stuff almost daily on my PC and it works fine. The video just gets shrunk a little to fit my screen (1680x1050 BTW). Not to mention my old 2400+ Athlon, 512MB RAM, Ti4400 machine can play any and all HD stuff perfectly fine. WMP has problems sometime, but if I use VLC, or TheaterTek2, it works perfectly fine (no skips, jumps or anything).

If you have an Nvidia graphics chip and purevideo you can play those WMV-HD clips with no skip and lower CPU usage (~70% usage)

Yes, I played some clips off the website: http://www.wmvhd.com/

They worked perfectly.

Wasn't there a HD Terminator DVD movie released that really only works on computers?
1080i needs either hardware decoding (video card w/ 64mb or more) + 3ghz processor

easy test - terminator dvd wmv9 hd format

now if we are trying to estimate on a p-m, remember a 1.6 p-m is about a 2.4; so the 3.0 requirement would fall (guessing) to the 1.86 (assuming you have something other than intel 900/950 video (probably need x600/x700 or 6600gt or higher also)

I'm not sure. I will have to download somewhere these moves you posted out here.
I just know that I had a clip from Madagascar in HD (before it appeard in Cin) and my Desktop (1300 Duron/64MB gf2/384 Ram) played them only the sound had been left behind with a 1 or 2 sec, but on a 2400 XP already worked fine.

It's on the Extreme Edition T2 DVD if I remember correctly. DRM'd though.
