WSXGA+ and WUXGA

Hi everyone,

I am trying to decide a screen type for a new laptop that will be for gaming.
Which resolution do most games support natively (1600x1050) or (1900x1200). Also will it be better to get the WSXGA+ so that I can turn on all the eye candies and still get good frame rates?

For normal desktop usage do you find the WUXGA very small? How about watching DVDs? Does it make any difference?

I receive my 9880 40 days ago and I love my 1900x1200, the only reason I got the sager is for games only. WOW, H2, BF2 nice resolution and clear crisp and I have to glair issues

Do you find the normal desktop usage (fonts/icons) to be too small?

Well as I haven't recieved my money yet (waiting to order 5720, which was originally gonna be a 3880, then the 5320). I couldn't tell you the difference between the 2 and you didn't state which size screen you would be getting, which I suppose would have some form of impact. Anyway, here is the WSXGA+ WUXGA comparision that was done on the 3790 with the 15.4" screen. Hopes this helps at least a little.

Yes normal desktop fonts/ions a bit smaller but I got use to it

Pharoke, thanks for the link . I remember seeing this thread when it first started but couldn't recall it today.

I am going for the 17 inch. The system I am interested in is the 5720. Just not sure which screen will be right. Does anyone know if both (SXGA and UXGA) are made by the same company and have identical specs (brightness, contrast etc.).

That part is the same as the alienware 7700. Its the same case and parts. Its even packed the same way, has the same logos on the bottom. I just got to compare a wuxga and wsxga+ sager and a wuxga and wsxga+.. the wuxga is so much better.

I am thinking along the same line as well. I don't want to squint at the icons and fonts.

BTW. Did anyone find any new reviews of the 5720 or its clones. (I have already seen the European one... Bittech .. or whatever the site is called).

I have a 1600x1200 15" screen. I have no problem on the desktop or most apps. Desktop fonts, icon sizes, and the way fonts are displayed in programs (office, etc) are easily adjustable for ease of reading. The only time I have a problem is when web pages used fixed fonts that are designed for 800x600 (or smaller) browsers. Most pages use scalable fonts that adjust easily, but those that don't it's quite annoying.

I'll be buying a 1900x1200 17" screen on my 9750, I enjoy the higher resolutions in gaming.

I'm almost in the same boat. My current 5680 has the UXGA, for browsing I love it. for gaming? alot of todays games play in either 800X600, or lower I found when you drop the resolution drastically like this, you get a little blurring, and this is not from the screen being slow. Thias is what I worry about, my next laptop will be the 9750, how configured? Unknown I'm waiting for the final specs seeing I mostly play games, the rest is details!
