look at the number for the overclocking, 4.2 GHz on the pentium D

Interesting to see the X2 4400 being overclocked at a speed faster than the 4800. Obviously on the laptop, we'll be a little bit more limited because of the cooling options but it seems that the 4400 will be a good option.

Interesting, Thanks for the link.

Im not in love with this article, as alot of factors are kinda unequal. IMO you shouldn't bench 2 cpus in a game on high settings, thats all GPU work. Granted I believe its the same GPU here, its also a different mobo. But meh, the scores are still pretty close despite Intels "4.2ghz!!!!!!!!".

Also, he rants about the 1M L2 cashe in the 3800-4200 but doesnt show any benchmarks or links to support his claim that it reduces processor performance as significantly as he claims. Seems every other sentence in his conclusion is "But remember, the lower price athlon x2s only have 1M L2!"

They are probably glad they didn't look at the power consumption and heat generation of those two systems...

Were I building today (waiting for the new AMD socket before doing next machine) I'd build AMD. The P4's are just not worth bothering with, and clocking them to 4.2 is quite unlikely in most cases.

I too like the new AMDs but they are losing some of their attractiveness now that the price is on par with Intel. I did some casual shopping and found the Intel dual cores are cheaper than AMD's dual cores and, according to Tom's Hardware, seem to perform slightly better at factory settings. Who would have thought we'd ever hear that?
