Hay guys, I took a Lexus out for a test drive this morning, do you think they will mind if I keep it and return my old Honda to them instead?

Just wondering, I think it may be ok.

Besides, how is DELL cheating it's customers? I bet the ones who complain about being ripped off are the same people that try to rip companies any which way they can...
You know what they say- people that can't spell are uneducated. I would explain your question but I don't think you can comprehend the answer

Why return the laptop with just less memory, when you can just take them all!!! I would open it up, take the whole motherboard with cpu/gpu/hd/wireless, and return the empty shell with just the keyboard/touchpad/screen. then use $$$ you saved to get a new 24" LCD, USB keyboard/mouse, move to india and enjoy!, while them dell bastards trying to figure out why the laptop won't turn on, lol...

But Dell owns India...

Honestly some people are so stupid it utterly amazes me. Why the hell would you post a thread on this if you were going to do it? Why do it anyway? Just stick a knife into a wall outlet already.

I'm returning them a inspiron 9300 that came with two gigs of ram but I was wondering what would happend is I swapped the 2 gigs from this 9300 with the 1 gig in my xps gen2.

Would they ever realize that the laptop was supposed to have 2 gigs in it? will they even check it ? what could happend if I get cought? will they ask me to return it or will they charge me?

I know it is not very honest but I don't care screwing a company that tried to screw me by charging me 15% restocking fee to return a brand new laptop after 7 days I got it .

Thanks for your help !!
Well, since most people's responses are extremely RETARDED (yes, RETARDED, and i dont care if you guys give me neg feedback, big whoop, its a fukin online forum), i guess i'll start off by actualy answering your question instead of tell you its wrong thinking i have never stolen in my life, like most of these people seem to think.

I don't think its a very good idea to do this because most likely they'll find out. However, i dont think you should have to pay $550 to return a laptop...'restocking'... I think you're better off just calling them up and telling them about why you think you shouldn't have to pay for basically a third to a fourth of the laptop just to return it. Also, whatever happened to dells like 30day satisfaction guarantee? If it's only been 7 days, and you're not satisfied, then they should take it back. One thing, however, that might work, is that you can call them and tell them you would like to return it because you talked to a Dell representative and he said that the i9300 would have the option of having a 7800GTX in the future (which it does not). I know, its 'lying', but i'd rather 'lie' than pay 550 to return something.

So yea, dont swap the memory, just talk to dell about it. When you call them and the person has an attitude in their voice, hang up, call back and speak to another one.

And NO, i do not consider this to be 'ripping off' dell. If you go buy a computer from Best Buy, and you decide you don't like it after 7 days, they take it back without charging you 550 bucks. Restocking fee's after 7 days...come on, thats ridiculous. After 21 days or w/e, i understand the reason for them, but after 7, its just pointless.

Oh, and someones probably gonna flame me for this, its inevitable in a forum. But simply put, i dont care, the topic was posted for an answer, not for people to tell the topic starter about how much of a theif he is...

I dunno, maybe it takes some people longer than others to figure out how the world works, I'm 18, I got it, maybe you and the original poster are younger or simply haven't lived enough:

First off, the question was answered in the first reply post, therefore there was no need for a second answer. Secondly, it's a responsibility of a community to maintain moral standing and a good reputation, it's the same concept that many forums don't allow talk of using hacking programs or "w4r3z", it's a simple responsibility. Thirdly, I, nor most people (I dunno, I'm not going to reread every post) did not say we never stole something. Everyone becomes desperate at a time, sometimes people dont think, whatever, the point is it happens, but deliberately planning to rip-off a business is really inexcusable.

Now here's a lesson in business because you obviously don't understand how it works. You may not realize it, but laptops don't magically fall out of the sky and Dell picks them up. It takes many man hours, resources, and company funds to put one together and ship it out to you, the customer. That said, if you don't have a good reason (defective product, etc.), they're not going to financial take it in the rear because you whimsically decided you didnt like the laptop and want to return it. You're paying for your lack of ability of forethought, welcome to the real world. Also, restocking fee is restocking fee. The cost of creating the product and then having to take it back and store it somewhere doesn't magically appear to the company after 21 days, they need money for THEIR inconvienence. Best Buy isn't nearly in the same category as Dell as far as expenses and business costs go, so that's a ridiculous comparison.

Honestly, post if you have something to say instead of looking "retarded" yourself.

Hmm, Dell wants to charge you $550 to return your laptop. The restocking fee is 15% of the price of the system. That would mean that your system cost approximately $3,666.67. Now, I would think that someone who could afford a laptop of that price could afford to buy more RAM for their other high-end laptop, especially when Dell has been nice enough to waive that $550 restocking fee for you.

"If you go buy a computer from Best Buy, and you decide you don't like it after 7 days, they take it back without charging you 550 bucks."
Yeah, they might not charge you $550, but they will charge you something. That is, of course, unless you just decide that you don't like the laptop in that unopened box and you want to return it. Best Buy charges a restocking fee on all opened notebooks, unless they are defective.

Go buy the Cheapest, crappiest notebook RAM into your returning notebook. lol

Dell is now alerted that Matt Galarneau will be trying to send a notebook back with missing components which is actually a criminal offence according to them. I pointed them to the URL of this thread as well so they can show his intent of theft incase he does try this. They thanked me a few times and said the system would be checked thoroughly upon return.

Imperil :- Regardless of what the guy has asked and whether or not what he has asked is morally correct, grassing like that is the act of a 5 year old. Even though I have only been a member of this forum for a couple of weeks, and this is like my second post, I feel that I should voice my opinion. AFAIK these forums are not offically affiliated with Dell or any of their subsidary companies. In short, it was none of your business to contact Dell on this matter.

Of course I myself shall be flamed for this, but I think that your reaction was very over the top.

Yikes.
I'm gonna stay out of these forums now, I don't trust people to not dob on me if I was to post something stupid.
I prefer external forums to remain independant from the company discussed, not be ridden with snitches...

Taking stuff that people say in forums and using it to do something to them in real life is really low IMO. You doing that speaks wonders of your character.

Lets just start at the top;

You are 18, you have not figured out how the world works, you don't know everything, you only think that you know how everything works. A few years down the road you will look at yourself now and realise it. This is the only thing that made me reply to this post because I was amazed. "Havn't lived enough" You are 18!!!!

I don't particularly care if some guy rips off dell for a few dollars. It doesn't make me want to go on a righteous rant about morals. Since you feel so strongly about morals I am sure you spend your days doing good and helping people all the time...

Again you are 18. You do not have a degree in business. You probably have never taken a business class. And I really don't think you have first hand experience in business. So please do not talk like you do. A large company like Dell, Best-Buy and whoever does not need to charge restocking fees to recover costs from people whimsically deciding they don't want a laptop anymore. They make enough profit that they can (and do) put that into thier budget. Theft is also put into thier budgets, it is an expected and inevitable part of selling merchandise, or manufacturing it, or having employees, or doing damn near anything.

You look "retarded".

I agree. Reporting this person to Dell was not necessary.

It is completely Dell's right to charge the restocking fee. If they didn't, which, by the way, they didn't do until a few months ago, they lose a lot of money off the people that buy systems, and then see them cheaper a week later, so they return them and buy the same system for cheaper. Dell is then required to sell the returned system at a much lower price, as they cannot sell it as a new system. I am not sure about this, but I think Best Buy sells returned systems that are unopened as new ones, which could explain why they don't charge a restocking fee on unopened items. That is not true with Dell. They cannot sell these as new. They have to sell them as refurbished. Dell sold him a perfectly fine system. There is nothing wrong with it. The fact that he didn't like it is not their fault. Why should they pay for his personal preferences? He should have done his homework before buying the system. It's not Dell's responsibility to indulge the desires of every one of their customers.

What makes me mad about this guy is that Dell is willing to waive that fee for him, and he still wants to rip them off. I don't care what company it is. If the company is willing to go against their normal policy for you, then you don't need to try and get more out of them.
